Terps Learn Everywhere: In Action Awards
Nominate a Terp whose actions show what learning beyond the classroom looks like.
Nominations close Friday, Sept. 25. The first awards will be presented at Terp Talk on Friday, Oct. 16.
Who can be nominated
Students, staff, faculty and alumni.
Six Terps will be recognized: four students, one staff or faculty member and one alum.
Anyone in the University of Maryland community can submit a nomination. You don't need to supervise, teach or advise the person you're nominating.
What the awards recognize
Actions that model one or more of Maryland's four co-curricular learning domains.
Engage Inquisitively
Curiosity and innovation. A Terp who asked a bold question and followed it somewhere.
Practice Compassion
Listening deeply to understand, then acting with care.
Act with Courage
Stepping into the unknown, doing brave things and growing from the challenge.
Work for Justice
Advancing equity and positive change.
One domain is enough. Most nominees will show more than one.
What makes a strong nomination
Name the learning, not just the activity. "She organized the food drive" tells us what happened. "She learned to run a meeting where people disagreed and still left with a plan" tells us why it mattered.
Be specific. A single moment beats a list of accomplishments. What did this person handle that they couldn't have handled a year ago?
You don't need a big program. A shift, a conversation or a semester of showing up demonstrates that Terps Learn Everywhere.

Recipients are recognized at Terp Talk on Friday, Oct. 16.
