Student Affairs Staff Awards

Sergio Brack, Recwell Coordinator, Esports, was named a Top 30 Higher Ed IT Influencer of 2022 by EdTech Magazine. Sergio is involved with Cxmmunity, an organization committed to increasing diversity in esports. He also co-founded the College Call of Duty league, an esports league that promotes accessibility and inclusivity in collegiate gaming. Sergio aims to support students not only in esports competitions, but also in career development. 

Mary Kate Crawford, Associate Director, Programs, was awarded the Horace Moody Award for outstanding commitment to student development from NIRSA. Mary Kate has a long history of mentoring students and has supported more than 20 student employees who have entered the field of collegiate recreation. Nominated for the award by former student employees, Mary Kate is proud to continue to nurture and inspire alumni who are navigating the beginning stages of their careers in student affairs. 

Tami Lee, Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness, earned a Women of Distinction award from the President’s Commission on Women’s Issues. Tami was nominated by a direct report who championed Tami's role in mentoring women in collegiate recreation. Tami's commitment to personal and community well-being is evident in her mentorship and in her day to day work. 

Assistant Golf Professional & Coordinator for Player Development & Memberships, Gabby Miller, was named a Top 50 Operation 36 Coach. Gabby has been instrumental in helping to develop the University Golf Course as a leader in youth golf development. In addition to managing the Operation 36 program for youth and adult novice golfers, Gabby also coaches in the First Tee program for youth golfers, supported the largest PGA Junior League season in Spring 2022, and started a new golf program at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Beltsville. 

Sister Maureen Schrimpe, Dining Services Nutrition and Quality Coordinator, received the 2022 Board of Regents Staff Award for Outstanding Service to Students in an Academic or Residential Environment, for her service to students with major food allergies or special diets. Sister Maureen holds hundreds of individual meetings with students who have major food allergies, intolerances or medically required special diets to discuss dining options that will keep them safe. Oftentimes, she crafts custom menus for individual students and coordinates when and where they will receive each meal. 

Sister Maureen also leads Dining’s “Fearless Flavors” nutrition program, which The National Association of College & University Food Services (NACUFS) recognized as the gold-level winner for Most Innovative Wellness and Nutrition Program for the fifth time in the past seven years.

Yu-Wei Wang, Counseling Center Assistant Director, was awarded the Society of Counseling Psychology’s (APA Division 17) Excellent Contribution Award recognizing Yu-Wei’s significant contributions over the last decade to international counseling psychology.

We are pleased to announce that the STAMP Marketing & Communications team has won awards in multiple categories at the 2022 ACUI Steal This Idea national competition, recognizing student and professional staff excellence in marketing design. Congrats to C&VS and Campus Partners

The readers of Unique Venues magazine have selected the University of Maryland, College Park as the 2021 Runner-Up in the category "Best Venue for Weddings" and the 2021 Winner in the category "Best Venue for Locally Sourced Catering".

With the announcement of this award, the Conferences & Visitor Services department has now brought thirteen Best Of Awards to the University in just seven years!
