Julia Kallaur 2022-2023 Scholar

Julia Kallaur is a sophomore Criminology and Criminal Justice major. She serves the UMD community in many ways – as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Student Government Association, a Community Advocate for the University Student Judiciary, the Director of the UMPD Student Advisory Council, and an ambassador for Preventing Sexual Assault. She also works hard on campus in the Student Organization Resource Center to help the Stamp Student Union run smoothly and assist her peers with the organization, planning, and funding of their student groups. When she’s not spending all her time on campus, Julia is training to run her next long-distance race, learning Russian and Spanish, painting commissions for her friends, and cooking new recipes for her friends.
Miara Sasdi 2022-2023 Scholar

Miara Sasdi currently serves on the Student Honor Council for the University Student Judiciary where she makes decisions on academic misconduct cases and educates all students about the policies of the University of Maryland. She is also a student staff member for the University of Maryland Campus Food Pantry which aids in providing emergency food to staff and faculty as well as creates programs to tackle food insecurity. Additionally, Miara also works as an Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for a Cybersecurity Professionals Colloquium Series course. Finally, she is an Honors Intern for the Department of Justice where she has had experience working in the Criminal Division and Counterintelligence Division.
Zoe Singer 2021-2022 Scholar

Zoe Singer is a current sophomore at the University of Maryland majoring in Government and Politics with a minor in Law & Society. Zoe is currently on a pre-law track and enjoys traveling in her free time. After being on the Honor Council of USJ for three semesters, Zoe enjoys the community-based environment within USJ and loves that she is able to make a bigger impact within UMD.
Daisy Yu 2020-2021 Scholar

Daisy Yu is a senior at UMD pursuing degrees in Chemistry and Communication with a concentration in public relations. She serves as one of the Education and Outreach Co-Chairs and an Honor Council Member for USJ. On campus, she serves on the College of Arts and Humanities Dean’s Advisory Board and TerrapinSTRONG subcommittee and as the Operations Director for Universities Allied for Essential Medicines. The president of the Honors Student Programming Council, Daisy was recently inducted into ODK and the Jim Henson chapter of NRHH.
Marissa Elkinson 2020-2021 Scholar

I am a sophomore at the University of Maryland-College Park. I am a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology with a minor in Army Leadership studies. I am also involved in USJ, Army ROTC, Maryland Mentor Corps and, a member of the Maryland Army National Guard. After I graduate, I hope to become a Special Agent in the FBI, working in the Crimes Against Children Unit.
Allyson Croxton 2019-2020 Scholar

My name is Allyson Croxton and I am a first-generation college student. I transferred from Frederick Community College with my Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Paralegal Certificate. Currently, I am a junior working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a double minor in Public Leadership and Law & Society.
I have several years of retail management experience and was the Vice President of Leadership for Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. While I am still establishing myself here at the University of Maryland, I have joined the University Student Judiciary and serve on the Appellate Board, Tau Sigma National Honor Society, and Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society. I intend to grow within these organizations, so upon graduation I will become an alumna resource providing guidance and hopefully financial support.
I am on track to graduate in May 2021 and have plans to start my law school educational career in the Fall of 2021. As a full-time law student, I intend graduate in the spring of 2024 with a Juris Doctorate. I aspire to become a lawyer specializing in white collar crimes, entertainment, and sport law.
Renee Paulraj 2019-2020 Scholar

Renee Paulraj is a current freshman at the University of Maryland pursuing dual degrees in Government & Politics and Information Science with a minor in Humanities, Health, and Medicine. She is a part of the Design, Cultures, and Creativity honors program through which she hopes to design a capstone project to combat the digital divide, which was inspired by encountering the digital divide in various neighborhoods while volunteering on presidential, gubernatorial, and state legislature campaigns. Currently, she is a member of the UMD Mock Trial team, Girl Up, Phi Alpha Delta, and serves on the Honor Council for the University Student Judiciary. Looking forward, Renee hopes to volunteer with Amnesty International and other nonprofit organizations before attending law school where she hopes to specialize in international human rights law or health law.
Seungtaek Oh 2019-2020 Scholar

I am a junior from Clarksburg, Maryland studying Biology with a concentration in cell biology and genetics. In addition to being a member of USJ and a Presiding Officer in training, I am involved in the Honors College Student Programming Council, Honors Ambassadors, Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society, and research with Dr. Dayie in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. After graduation, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in RNA biology and conduct research on the roles of various RNAs in a biomedical context.
Guarika Mester 2018-2019 Scholar

I am a junior Biology major on a Pre-Med track. Sophomore year, I added a minor in Public Leadership. I participate in clinical research at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center as well as volunteer in the Trauma Resuscitation Unit. I have been an active member of the University Student Judiciary and recently was trained to become a Presiding Officer. I am also a member of the Finance Committee for the Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. I enjoy being involved in the University of Maryland community. Go Terps!
Erin Farley 2018-2019 Scholar

Erin Farley is a sophomore Criminology and Criminal Justice major with a double minor in Cybersecurity (ACES) and Global Terrorism Studies. Striving to create change around campus and in the residence halls is a major goal of hers. On campus, she has been involved in several student organizations such as the University Student Judiciary, Student Success Leadership Council, Residence Hall Association, National Residence Hall Honorary, and Do Better Community-Improvement Inc. Executive Board. She is employed part-time under the Division of IT working in McKeldin's Terrapin Tech Store as a Tech Consultant. Erin is also joining UMD Resident Life and becoming a Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2019-2020 school year. These activities have exposed her to opportunities to improve her personal integrity, critical thinking skills, and passion for the wellness of the community; things that are all important in the law enforcement field. Being a part of the CCJS community has inspired her to add her two minors and narrow in on what type of career she wants to pursue. She plans on graduating in Spring 2021 and finding a career in a federal agency focused on national security, intelligence, or counterterrorism.
Kaylee Towey 2018-2019 Scholar

My name is Kaylee Towey. I am a sophomore finance and communications double degree student. I am on the Student Honor Council and the treasurer for the University Student Judiciary. I am also a facilitator for MLEAD conferences. Additionally, I spend a lot of time volunteering with my community Relay for Life event. I am also in the Public Leadership scholars program and intern for a local non-profit. After graduation, I am planning to get my MBA and I hope to work in financial relations and public affairs.
Julia Mikolajczak 2018-2019 Scholar

I am a second-year Criminal Justice major with minors in Global Poverty and Public Leadership from Niagara Falls, NY. I am also in the University Honors and Beyond the Classroom programs. I intend to graduate a year early from UMD in Spring 2019, so I consider myself to be a junior. I currently serve as Chair of the Appellate Board in the University Student Judiciary, and I was selected to join USJ's Executive Board as Selections Co-Chair for 2018-2019 year. I am also finishing my second semester as a Team Leader for the educational advocacy organization Partners in Print, which is based out of STAMP and part of the America Reads/America Counts program.
Additionally, I founded a new club at UMD last semester, the Out-of-State Student Association, in order to create a supportive environment to help out-of-state students like myself make friends on campus and explore the local area. As president, I have been working extremely hard this semester to recruit more members and get it off the ground. I am a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Phi Sigma honor societies, and I served on the APS Executive Board last semester. I have also been named to the BSOS Distinguished Dean's List for Outstanding Students every semester that I have attended UMD. After graduation, I hope to attend law school so I can practice criminal law as a prosecutor.
Manisha Sunil 2017-2018 Scholar

Manisha Sunil is a second year Government and Politics major with a concentration in International Relations. On campus, she is Vice President and co-founder of IGNITE at Maryland, a Community Advocate and Executive Board member for the University Student Judiciary, a member of the Honors College, and works part-time at the Clarice. In the past, she has had the opportunity to intern with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender and the Maryland General Assembly. Manisha hopes to attend law school and work in public service, with a specific focus working with underrepresented and minority communities.
Katherine Taylor 2017-2018 Scholar

I am a rising junior in the Aerospace Engineering department. Outside of the University Student Judiciary, I am apart of the University Honors Program. I am also a member of the University Band where I play both flute and piccolo. I was the team lead and liaison to NASA for a group project for my ENAE100 class. Our team had the opportunity to present and to test our project in Houston, Texas at NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Tank in summer 2017.This summer I will intern at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in the Balloon Research and Development Lab. In the future I hope to work for NASA to enhance safety protocol for missions.
Anna Bieganowska 2017-2018 Scholar

Anna Bieganowska is a current sophomore at the University of Maryland pursuing a dual-degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology and Psychology. This is supplemented with a minor in Spanish and independent study of Polish. She is currently drafting a research paper on the modern democratic crisis in Poland for her honors citation, which was inspired by her background as a Polish immigrant.
Currently, she is proud to represent Maryland in the marching band, to gain an interdisciplinary study of the world through the Honors Humanities program, and to maintain student rights alongside fostering campus safety through serving on a board in the University Student Judiciary. Looking forward, she hopes to utilize all she learns at Maryland to become an intelligence analyst for the FBI, assisting in its mission of advancing justice in the United States.
