About Thomas C. and Maria A. Harris

Thomas ’72 and his late wife, Maria, shared a lifelong commitment to education and service. In 2025, Thomas established the Thomas C. and Maria A. Harris Family Endowed Scholarship for Veteran Student Life to carry forward that shared vision.

Having attended UMD on the GI Bill, he created this fund to support fellow Terps who, without financial assistance, might not be able to complete their degrees. This scholarship reflects their dedication to empowering servicemembers to pursue their education and dreams.

About the Fund

The Thomas C. and Maria A. Harris Family Endowed Scholarship provides scholarships for undergraduate students affiliated with Veteran Student Life. Eligible recipients will:

  • Be pursuing a business degree at the Robert H. Smith School of Business
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Have current or previous U.S. Armed Forces service or are a degree-seeking student in the ROTC program at UMD
