About Dominic and Pat Ciardi
Born Dec. 9, 1931, in Dover, N.J., Dominic Ciardi was the son of Soccorso and Ermelinda Ciardi. He graduated from Dover High School in 1949.
Dominic and Pat Ciardi, Bio
He was a member of the 1948 State Championship football team. He also excelled on the high school baseball team as a catcher. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1953. Dominic served in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of captain. He was stationed in California and Japan. In 1956, he married Patty Brown, also from Dover, and they moved to Chicago, Ill. In 1958, Dominic received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, where he also worked in their Industrial Relations Center. Dominic returned to New Jersey and became an instructor for Rutgers University in 1959, and, in 1960, he took a position with M & T Chemicals in Rahway, New Jersey, where he worked until his retirement in 1995 as the director of human resources and administration.
Dominic served on the Piscataway School Board for 26 years, and the athletic field is named in his honor. In 1965, he was chosen “Man of the Year” by the Piscataway Jaycees and, in 1999, his name was placed on the “Wall of Fame” at Dover High School. Dominic was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Church in Piscataway for 54 years. After retirement, he volunteered his services, maintaining the church and grounds as well as renovating its basement. Dominic was a dearly loved husband, father of two daughters and three sons, and grandfather of nine.
About the Fund
This scholarship was established in the names of Dominic and Pat Ciardi by his children, Cindy Ciardi Whittington '79, Kim Ciardi Madlinger '81, Mark Ciardi '83, and Scott Ciardi '87, as well as other generous supporters, to provide need-based student scholarships to veterans at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Ryan Andreasen grew up in Marlboro, NJ, and chose to defer a year at the University of Maryland to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps as a reservist at 18. During his gap year, he accomplished his life goal of becoming a Marine. He was named honor graduate at the top of his class in aircraft maintenance before volunteering to serve an additional 4 months of active duty. While his time in the Marine Corps has had an indescribable impact on his life, he now claims the University of Maryland as his home, as he set his sights on graduating with a bachelor's degree in computer science. Upon graduation, he hopes to work on the civilian side of military projects to continue his service, only this time without a uniform.

Sharon Lokesh (2024-2025 Scholar)
Sharon Lokesh serves in the Army Reserves as a signal support specialist and recently completed a nine-month deployment with the 411th Engineer Brigade in support of Operation Spartan Shield in Camp Buehring, Kuwait. She is currently pursuing a bachelor's in computer science at the University of Maryland and has joined the ROTC program to develop her leadership skills. Sharon aspires to become a commissioned officer in the military, combining her technical expertise with her commitment to service.
Eghosa Ebhojiaye (2023-2024 Scholar)
Eghosa Ebhojiaye is a USMC reservist and works at Costco as a baker. In the Marines, he is a motor transport mechanic and a command physical training representative for his unit. At UMD he is pursuing his bachelors in electrical engineering with a specialization in computer engineering.
Justin Goodwin (2022-2024 Scholar)
Justin Goodwin is a United States Air Force veteran of 8.5 years of service as an Electrical Power Production Craftsman separating at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served at Spangdahlem AB Germany, Vandenberg AFB California, Osan AB South Korea, and deployed to Kuwait, Jordan, and Bulgaria. Justin is most proud of his dedication to leading, mentoring, and taking care of the Airmen that he supervised, turning fresh and young technicians into subject matter experts that the Air Force depend on. Justin is also proud of the direct impact he had on the missions he supported while deployed, leading Airmen in supporting the mission, our NATO allies, and making sure that every pilot made it home safely to their families.
Pague Sanders (2020 - 2021 Scholar)
Pague Sanders is originally from McLean, Virginia, and joined the Air Force right after highschool graduation. Pague served 6 years active duty as a C-17 Crew Chief in Dover, DE, and continues to serve in the reserves! Her favorite and most rewarding position on active duty was as an Honor Guardsman performing military funeral services. She is currently double majoring in Education and Agriculture, and hopes to teach Agriculture or be involved in her local Agricultural communities in the future. Pague enjoys time with her two and a half year old daughter and ten month old son in her free time, and loves taking them hiking.
James Cassarino (2018 - 2019 Scholar)
James Cassarino is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. And served for four years stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Mediterranean Sea where he spent eleven months aboard the USS Bataan. He is pursuing a degree in English Literature with an eye on writing creative works professionally after graduation in December 2019.
Jon Bagley (2016 - 2017 Scholar)
My name is Jonathan Dean Bagley. I was born July 12, 1985 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was raised in Las Vegas surrounded by my loving family until I graduated from Cheyenne High School in June of 2003. I spent the next year working and living on my own until I enlisted in the Marine Corps in April of 2004. My motivations for enlisting where not uncommon amongst most veterans that you would meet. Patriotism, honor, and sense of duty ranked among the top reasons for becoming a Marine. The chief reason was for change. I found myself desiring a different, more meaningful life.
Joanna Chism (2015-2016 Scholar)
Joanna is a seven year veteran of the Air Force and is currently a senior majoring in Psychology. She hopes to pursue a graduate degree in Psychology eventually working with military families as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She has Associate degrees in Intelligence Studies, Korean, and Psychology and Sociology. A native of Pennsylvania, Joanna is also married to a veteran who is working to complete his degree. Joanna is the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Achievement Medal for Outstanding Volunteer Service. She is fluent in Korean and spent four years in South Korea as a cryptologist while in the Air Force. She was recently inducted in Psi Chi honorary.
