About the Department of Conferences & Visitor Services
Conferences & Visitor Services (C&VS) provides administrative and logistical support for hosting educational conferences, summer camps and other similar non-credit programs and events. C&VS also manages the Welcome Desks in Turner Hall which provides tours for thousands of elementary and middle school students annually.
About the Fund
The Conferences & Visitor Services Student Employee Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial assistance to UMD students who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and have made a positive impact on Conferences & Visitor Services and the University community. Gifts in support of The Conferences & Visitor Services Student Employee Scholarship Fund will support the current use scholarship. When the fund balance reaches the minimum endowment level, the current-use fund will be converted to an endowment.

William Moreno is a second-year MBA student at the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, specializing in marketing and customer success. Throughout his time at Maryland, William has embraced leadership roles as the Vice President of Community Development on the MBA Board, organizing diversity and inclusion initiatives to foster a welcoming environment for all students.William has also contributed as a Teaching Assistant, supporting academic excellence by leading classes and facilitating group discussions on topics like AI and marketing. Additionally, he’s been involved with the Latin American Club, raising funds for community-building events and supporting incoming international students.Maryland has been a transformative experience for William, offering a platform to grow academically, professionally, and personally while being part of a supportive and vibrant community.

Suraj Kalwaghe (2024-2025 Scholar)
Suraj Kalwaghe is a master's student in Robotics at the University of Maryland, graduating in Spring 2025. His academic pursuits focus on advanced robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, along with a strong passion for developing innovative solutions to real-world problems. At UMD, Suraj has had the privilege of working on cutting-edge projects, such as autonomous systems and robotics middleware frameworks, which have deepened his technical expertise and problem-solving skills.
Apart from academics, Suraj actively engages in professional development opportunities, including networking at conferences and participating in workshops. Additionally, he was part of Conference & Visitor Services during the summer of 2024, where he had the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, learn about their perspectives, and address their needs. This experience helped Suraj step out of his comfort zone, significantly enhancing his communication skills and overcoming his fear of public speaking.
Sreelekshmy Rengith (2023-2024 Scholar)
Hailing from the southernmost part of India, Trivandrum, Kerala, Sreelekshmy Rengith embarked on a journey to the United States, driven by childhood aspirations fueled by tales of opportunities and an elevated standard of living. Following the completion of her undergraduate studies in Computer Science, she delved into the corporate IT industry, serving as a Systems Engineer for two and a half years. A pivotal moment prompted her to transition to the next chapter of her life, leading her to the University of Maryland.
In her first year at UMD, Sreelekshmy engaged with a diverse audience and immersed herself in various experiences. Serving as a volunteer for Maryland Day was not only a joyful experience but also a testament to her commitment to contributing to the university community. Her time at C&VS has been transformative, fostering personal growth and forging lifelong connections.
Actively participating in the AppDev club at UMD has further enriched her understanding of Computer Science, providing valuable insights into the domain and facilitating networking opportunities with like-minded individuals. As Sreelekshmy reflects on my journey, she is grateful for the multifaceted experiences and the vibrant community that UMD has provided, shaping her into a more well-rounded individual.
