Past Scholars

Alexis Stonebanks

Alexis Stonebanks’ involvement in student organizations has been one of the most rewarding parts of her Maryland experience. She is proud to be part of the Hearts for Homeless club, where she’s had the opportunity to give back to vulnerable populations by organizing donation drives and spreading awareness about homelessness. In addition, Alexis is starting a new club at UMD called the Playtime Project Club, which supports children experiencing homelessness. By leading this club, she will develop leadership and organizational skills, while also working on initiatives that provide emotional and educational support to children in need. Additionally, Alexis is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and worked at a nursing home. Many residents in the nursing home were vulnerable and often in need of emotional support as much as physical care. Being able to offer kindness, patience, and empathy, even during difficult moments, has taught her how much compassion matters in healthcare. Furthermore, Alexis has gained clinical experience by working as a Medical Assistant (MA) for two years at a Dermatology and Internal Medicine practice.
