The William and Donna Richbourg Veterans Scholarship was established in honor of those who have served.

Past Scholars

Daniel Langford (2022-2023 Scholar)

a happy couple standing in front of Disney castle While attending the University of Maryland apart of the NROTC program, Daniel Langford has been able to maintain all A’s while helping shape our nation’s future Navy and Marine Officers. Some of his responsibilities include teaching tactics, helping out with physical training, and preparing the midshipman for field exercise training. At the FEXs, Daniel’s  responsibilities have included Range Safety Officer (RSO) for the entire evolution ensuring safe conduct through each iteration.

Eliott Hickman (2020 & 2021 Scholar)

Portrait of ElittEliott Hickman is a Senior Aerospace Engineering student from Tucson, AZ who is also the president of the University's Terrapin Rocket Team, Editor-in-Chief of the Design, Build, Fly RC aircraft team, and a 10 year veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Eliott is an experienced leader from both his time serving and continued to his academic career as shown by his leadership roles within student organizations and his pursuit of a minor in Global Engineering Leadership. Eliott aspires to pursue a career in the Aerospace industry with a focus in propulsion or control systems. When he is not busy with academics or extracurricular activities, he enjoys playing video games and spending time with his friends and family.

Steven Scammacca (2017 - 2019 Scholar)

portrait of StevenSteven is a United States veteran who served nearly six years of honorable service in the Marine Corps and was a Seargant at the time of his discharge. Steven served non-combat deployments to South Korea and Japan as well as a six month deployment to Afghanistan to conduct combat operations. Before his final deployment Steven received a Meritorious Mast, a formal and ceremonial acknowledgement of achievement, for his participation as a data collector in the Marine Corps’ research for improved infantry strategies. Steven officially retired his uniform on August 6th, 2016 and has learned many lessons in his time in the service including the value of hard work and discipline. He plans on continuing his service by enlisting into the National Guard at a future date.

Christopher Rand (2015 & 2016 Scholar)

Christopher Rand is a proud veteran of the US Navy. During his nine and a half year career he was stationed for 5 years on-board the USS Gettysburg and 2 years on-board the USS Carney where he completed a total of 5 deployments including 3 to the Middle East. On-board both vessels he served as an Aegis Fire Controlman, who's duties include mainlining and operating the ship's Aegis weapon system. Active in the TerpVets organization and a board member on the Student Conduct Committee, Christopher is majoring in Electrical Engineering with the hopes to continue to work on either missile defense systems or power systems.
