Vicky Guevara

2024-2025 Scholar

Vicky is a non-traditional student who returned to school after 20 years to pursue a second career in world language education as a Spanish teacher. As a mother of two sons, she was inspired to set an example for her children, showing them that it is never too late to follow your dreams. After putting her education on hold to focus on raising her family, Vicky decided to return to the classroom and complete her academic journey. Since resuming her studies, Vicky has excelled academically, earning a place on the Dean’s List each semester and receiving multiple awards every year. She has also been recognized for her achievements as a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Prior to returning to school, Vicky worked as a vocational educator for five years, where she gained firsthand experience in teaching, lesson planning, and classroom management. This experience helped her develop the skills and confidence that have shaped her professional journey and further fueled her passion for education. Now pursuing a double major in education and Spanish at the University of Maryland, Vicky’s journey is a testament to perseverance, dedication, and her commitment to lifelong learning. Her story is a reminder that success can be achieved at any stage in life with determination and focus.
