Miriam Taiwo Garcia

2025-2026 Scholar

Miriam Taiwo Garcia is currently a first-year Civil Engineering student minoring in Archaeology at the University of Maryland. Miriam was recently selected for admission to Cohort 46 of the QUEST Honors Program, which she’ll begin work for in the coming academic year. Her leadership roles include serving as Vice President of the Black Student Union (BSU) Freshman Council and as a member of the BSU Community Service Committee, where she helps  coordinate initiatives geared towards uniting and strengthening the Black student population. This spring, Miriam proudly became an initiate of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, furthering her commitment to serving our UMD community and beyond. She is also an active member of the Flexus: Women in Engineering Living and Learning Program, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Black Engineers Society. Academically, Miriam is passionate about sustainable design and ancient building practices, and she works part-time as a Student Technician for the UMD Division of IT Service Desk.
