2024 Scholar

My name is Nadia Martin. I am an incoming freshman, but throughout my high school career, I participated in a multitude of extracurricular and academic pursuits. I was a 4 year volleyball player, playing 3 years on varsity. I was freshman year JV captain and senior year Varsity captain. I was a part of an organization called Leadership Institute, through which I co-founded an environmental subgroup that restored my high school's greenhouse, and got the school certified as a Maryland Green School. This led to recognition by White House staff and a member of the West Wing giving our subgroup a private tour of the division. In school, I was president of both the National Science Honor Society and the National English honor society. I was a member of the National Math Honor Society and National Honor Society as well. I worked with my school's summer program to tutor my peers during my summer vacations and I also tutored during the school year for math, science, and english. In terms of class-based academic pursuits I pushed myself to take 11 AP classes over the course of my four years; U.S. History, Seminar, Government, Research, Art History, World, Language and Composition, Calculus BC, Physics C, Literature and Composition, and Computer Science Principles. I graduated with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.9 weighted GPA. Where awards are concerned, I earned the College Board's African American Recognition Award for students who have earned a 3 or higher on two or more AP exams by junior year, the College Board AP Scholar Award for the same thing, an AP Capstone Diploma for students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing. I also earned the Certificate of Meritorious Service for documenting over 240 Student Service Learning Hours (I earned 305), the Maryland Certificate of Merit awarded to the top 5% of students in the individual's graduating class, and the Principal's Award which is granted to a single student in the graduating class for outstanding academic and extracurricular standing. Outside of school, I completed preliminary applications to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy and received offers to attend summer seminars at both institutions, and attended the session at the Naval Academy.
