Mark Crotty
Mark, a Maryland resident from an early age, earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance from the University of Maryland in 1980. After several years in the accounting field, he transitioned to computer programming, ultimately progressing into management roles over the course of his 38-year career with multiple Blue Cross organizations. Since retiring in October 2020, he has focused his time on family, volunteer service, engagement with the University of Maryland, and travel.
Mark’s primary volunteer commitment is with the National Capital Radio and Television Museum in Bowie, Maryland. Since joining the museum, he has contributed in a wide range of capacities, including serving as a docent, advisor to the treasurer, assisting the curator with the maintenance of the museum’s collections database, and assuming the role of editor of the museum’s quarterly newsletter. During 2026 he will join the Board of Directors and transition to the role of treasurer.
Mark is also actively involved with the University of Maryland. In honor of his father’s World War II naval service and his mother’s World War II civilian service, he established the Robert B. and Dorothy L. Crotty Veterans Scholarship, awarded annually to a deserving veteran student through the university’s TerpVets program. He is currently funding an endowment to create the Crotty Family Fund for VSL STEM Tutoring for TerpVets. Most recently, he endowed a partial women’s basketball scholarship in recognition of his father’s longstanding support of the team.
