Klayton is a first-year master’s student studying kinesiology, specializing in physical cultural studies. Before attending UMD, he served in the Air Force as an aircrew egress specialist, earned an associate's degree from Illinois Central College, and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a K-12 physical education teaching license from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
