James Robinson

2019-2021 Scholar

James Robinson was born in Safford, Arizona on September 25th, 1988, and grew up in Oceanside, California. After living abroad in Italy for two years, James joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 21. After graduating from basic training in San Diego, CA in October 2010, he was assigned to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA where he studied Mandarin Chinese. James graduated the 15 month language course with honors, earning an associates degree as well as an opportunity to study in Beijing for 6 weeks. James was subsequently assigned to the Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion, I Company, in Hawaii where he served for three years as a Chinese Language Analyst.

After separating from the Marine Corps in January 2016, James accepted a contracting position at the Office of Naval Intelligence in Suitland, Maryland. Unsatisfied with his career, James decided to pursue an education in engineering. After completing the associates transfer program of engineering at Anne Arundel Community College, James began his studies at University of Maryland's Clark School of Engineering in the chemical engineering program, where he anticipates graduating in May 2021.
