James Grace

2017-2018 Scholar

James works as a carpenter/general construction tradesman, he is a full time student at the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) studying Civil Engineering, and in his free time he is an acting Scout Master and enthusiastic fisherman.

"I owe much of my success to the Veterans programs like these. And because of these programs I am able to work less and dedicate more time to stewardship and service to my community. I am able to study harder to maintain academic excellence, tutor fellow students, and be involved with extra-curricular activities such as ASCE, Concrete Canoe, and Steel bridge. I am also able to serve my community as a Scout Master with Troop 427 in Edgmere where I counsel merit badges of Citizenship in the Community, Nation, and World. Of course, all this motivates me to aspire to give back more and has stirred up the call to service to emerge and I intend to continue my military career with a commission in the U.S. Navy's Civil Engineer Corps upon graduation from UMD."
