Ellie Silverman

2016 - 2017 Scholar

Ellie Silverman is a senior journalism and government and politics double major at the University of Maryland, College Park. She worked on the West Coast this summer as the investigative reporting intern at The Seattle Times and is interning for The Hill this fall. She studied abroad during the spring of 2016 in Sevilla, Spain, where she spent most of her time guzzling café con leche or reading in the Alcázar, better known as the Water Gardens of Dorne. Before her semester-long break from reality, she interned for McClatchy Newspapers covering political news and the Capital Gazette in Annapolis covering local news. She has worked as an editor and reporter at University of Maryland’s student newspaper The Diamondback since her freshman year, covering Facilities Management, the College Park City Council and the administrative affairs beat. This year she will be the special projects editor, with the goal of facilitating more watchdog journalism at the paper.
