Darrell Lipscomb Jr.

2024-2025 Scholar

Darrell Lipscomb Jr., originally from Inglewood, CA, enlisted in the Army at 17 as a chaplain's assistant, driven by a desire to support service members. His first assignment at Fort McNair, DC, included roles at Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myer Garrison Chapel, and assisting the Old Guard. During this time in the National Capital Region, Darrell earned many awards, including the Volunteer of the Year award and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for contributing over 1,000 volunteer hours, and being the first to be awarded the Junior Soldier of the Year for the Military District of Washington. In late 2019, he was assigned to South Korea, where he founded a business focused on financial literacy for soldiers and their families. After leaving the military, Darrell earned a bachelor’s degree in leadership from Purdue Global University and is now pursuing a master’s in accounting at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. He looks forward to interning as a Federal Audit Intern with KPMG in summer 2025, continuing his commitment to supporting service members.
