The Department of Residential Facilities' Housekeeping program has once again been recognized for its excellence by achieving the Cleaning Industry Management Standards (CIMS) accreditation from the Cleaning Management Institute (CMI). This prestigious accreditation acknowledges the program's adherence to the highest administrative, operational, and outcome standards in the cleaning industry.
Following a rigorous on-site third-party inspection and evaluation, the Department of Residential Facilities' Housekeeping program has successfully met the stringent criteria set by CIMS. The official notification, received earlier this week, confirms that the program will maintain its accreditation status for the next two years.
"We are immensely proud of our team," said Vassie Hollamon, Associate Director of Building Services in the Department of Residential Facilities. "The accreditation process was seamless for us because of the dedication and high standards our team upholds every day. By operating at an accreditation level consistently, we knew that this recognition would naturally follow."
The University of Maryland is in esteemed company, as only 13 universities across the United States have achieved CIMS accreditation. Notably, four of these institutions belong to the Big Ten conference, including University of Michigan Housing Facilities, Michigan State University Housing Services, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Custodial Services. Among these, three are residential facilities services groups.
This recognition highlights the Department of Residential Facilities' commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-managed living environment for its students and for the university community. Residential Facilities continues to lead by example, setting a benchmark for excellence in residential facility management within higher education.
