About The Stamp Student Employee

Recognized nationally, the Adele H. Stamp Student Union is the University of Marylands community center. Since its opening in 1954, the Stamp has provided innumerable students, staff, faculty, and visitors with a place to enjoy restaurants, shops, and other personal services. As the center of campus culture, the Stamp provides conference and meeting space, community gathering sites, offices for Student Affairs departments, dining options, and serves as the primary center for many of the over 600 student organizations and their programs. On a typical day, the Stamp plays host to over 20,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors.

About The Fund

The Adele H. Stamp Student Union employs over 500 undergraduate students each year. From meeting visitors at the Stamp Information Desk to mentoring local Prince George’s elementary school students in math and reading through Maryland Mentor Corps, these students contribute a great deal to the programs and services for which the Stamp is known. As the hub of campus life, the Stamp continues to serve the Maryland community and that service is enhanced through student employees and their leadership in the building and its various programs.

A recent graduate and Stamp employee for three years as an undergrad described her work experience at the Stamp Information Desk in this way, “My job gave me the chance to interact with every kind of individual on the campus, from classmates to professors to prospective students with their families and even international guests visiting for conferences or events. This allowed me to break down my sense of cultural barriers, for I’ve met people from diverse cultures whom I might not have met otherwise and learned that, fundamentally, we’re all the same on the inside and all desire happiness, friendship and peace.” Read the complete article.

With the increased financial burdens of attending the University, many students must work to help pay for college. While the Stamp provides a number of opportunities for students to find meaningful employment, there are still gaps in meeting their academic expenses. With the help of past Stamp employees, this endowed scholarship will provide additional opportunities to support student employees who work diligently to make Stamp a warm and friendly place to visit.
