BETA Team

Led by the Dean of Students, the Behavioral Evaluation and Threat Assessment (BETA) Team intervenes to provide support for students, faculty, and staff who raise concern about their potential for harm to themselves or others. The BETA Team will assess the potential risk to personal and campus safety that might result from the actions of individuals, will connect individuals in need with appropriate resources, and will monitor compliance with required support plans.

Student Care Team

Led by the Dean of Students Office, the Student Care Team provides a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to support students. The Student Care Team meets regularly to assess reported concerns, develop a comprehensive plan to help guide and support students, and address cases and issues that promote student success and well-being. The team includes university officials with relevant expertise and access to campus resources

Care Referrals

If you are concerned about the welfare of a member of the university community, including students, faculty, and staff, and this is a non-emergency, we encourage you to complete a Care Referral to report your concern. If you have an imminent concern for someone based on a threat of harm to self or others, call 911 or the University of Maryland Police at 301.405.3333. This includes emergencies such as possession of a weapon, violence, destruction of property, or suicidal ideation.
