About Ernest M. Willcher
Ernest M. Willcher ’61 served in the US Army for four years and spent 36 years working for the Army as a civilian employee. He was attending a meeting at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001 when he perished in the tragic events of the day. Ernie was dedicated to education and earned a B.S. from the University of Maryland and a degree from the Washington College of Law. He was the proud father of two sons who also graduated from the University of Maryland. Ernie devoted his life to his family and embodied the values of hard work and the importance of a good education. Ernie had tremendous pride and admiration for the men and women who served and sacrificed for our country and it was a source of pride that he spent his life supporting their honorable mission.
About the Fund
The Ernest M. Willcher Veterans Scholarship Fund was established in loving memory of Ernest, ’61 by his wife Shirley and sons Ben, ‘03 and Joel, ‘06 to support Veteran students at the University of Maryland, College Park.
