About the Fund
The Terp Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by the Parent/Family Advisory Council to provide support for current students in good standing who may be unable to continue their education at the University due to extenuating financial circumstances. The fund provides a one-time award for the academic year and is available to students who have completed at least 24 credit hours at the University. In the past, award amounts have been $500, $1,000, and $1,500.
How to Apply
The Terp Family Student Scholarship Application for the 2024-25 academic year is now live on Scholarship Universe! The application submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
The Terp Family Student Scholarship is a one-time award presented each year to undergraduate students in good standing who may be unable to continue their education at the University due to extenuating financial circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the committee will award a minimum of 15 scholarships of up to $2,000.
Students who complete the online scholarship application, and who meet the criteria, will be considered for the following scholarships:
- Terp Family Student Scholarship
- Littenberg Family Scholarship (priority consideration for engineering or education majors)
- J. Logan Schutz Legacy Scholarship (rising junior or senior whose parent/guardian attended UMD)
- Wes and Jo Ann Chin Endowed Scholarship

Andres Perez Cabera is a first-generation American living in Hyattsville, Maryland, with deep roots in the Hispanic community. Andres grew up in Langley Park, a vibrant area with a strong Hispanic presence, where he witnessed the challenges and strengths of his community. These experiences shaped his commitment to giving back and making a positive impact, both locally and beyond. Maryland has provided Andres with a supportive environment to pursue his education and connect with others who share similar backgrounds and aspirations.

Haleemat Adenuga
Haleemat is a current Junior majoring in Family Science, hoping to become a family and couple therapist or counselor. She is the current project leader for the Public Health Beyond Borders Kenya club. Haleemat is also a supervisor at one of the UMD Recwell facilities. Haleemat works as a front desk assistant for the Scholars's program, which she was a part of for 2 years in the Global Public Health program, where she also served as a peer mentor last year and this upcoming year. This upcoming school year, Haleemat will be joining the School of Public Health Dean's Undergraduate Student Advisory Council.
Abel Amene
At UMD, Abel Amene is involved in a number of student organizations and leadership positions. Abel serves as one of the co-secretaries of the UMD Student for Justice in Palestine. He’s also involved in the Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter on our campus. Abel is also involved in his local Student Government Association. Abel serves as an officer of the organization, a member of the legislature as the representative for off-campus students who live outside the immediate area around the campus.
Brooke Ayers
Brooke Ayers is pursuing a double degree in Anthropology and Geospatial Data Science. In her Anthropology studies, she serves as a student representative on the Undergraduate Board and is the president and co-founder of the Undergraduate Anthropology Student Association, where she plans community-building events within the department. Brooke has also participated in a summer field school in Skibbereen, Ireland, with the University of Maryland, which she found invaluable for her professional and personal development. Additionally, she has worked as a student researcher under Dr. Madeline Brown on the TREKS (Trails, Route-making, Environmental Knowledge and Stewardship) project, focusing on Maryland recreational trail names and their patterns and influences. Last spring, she was honored to present her research at the Society for Applied Anthropology conference in Santa Fe.
Initially completing her Anthropology classes quickly, Brooke sought a second major to occupy her time and chose Geospatial Data Science. She discovered her spatial thinking abilities, both in her academic work and beyond, with encouragement from her anthropology professors. Upon taking her first geography courses, she realized she was in the right field. Though she faced challenges in some classes, she acquired more technical skills than she had anticipated, including learning to code in Python for the first time. Now, she creates custom Python scripts for her GIS internship. The University of Maryland has provided her with the opportunity to explore her passions, challenge herself, and acquire new skills.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Brooke works at UMD as a Community Assistant at the Courtyards for her second year. She has also held a position as a lab assistant through the federal work-study program, both of which have enriched her experience at the university. She serves as the treasurer of The Wildlife Society and is a member of the Terrapin Trail Club, where she enjoys meeting others with similar interests and participating in volunteer events that align with her passion for the environment.
Brooke loves being a Terp and feels honored to attend a school that pushes her to be her best while accepting her for who she is.
Marlee Berghaus
Marlee Berghaus is currently earning her Bachelor of Science in Architecture, complemented by minors in Construction Project Management and Sustainability. She has thoroughly enjoyed her classes and formed lifelong friendships within her architecture studios. Through her coursework, Marlee has not only gained knowledge beyond her expectations but has also experienced significant personal growth.
Outside of her academic pursuits, Marlee has found immense growth and learning through her role as the project manager of the UMD chapter of the American Ecological Engineering Society (AEES). In this capacity, she has been responsible for managing various projects, ensuring their success while meeting deadlines and seeing them through to completion. Over the past three years, Marlee has overseen four projects and initiated three new ones. These initiatives include the restoration of rain gardens and streams in College Park, the construction of an algae collector for a local pond, and a community green wall where students can gather food, flowers, and learn about local vegetation. In each of these projects, she serves as a vital link between the project leaders and UMD facilities and staff, assessing feasibility and creating timelines to ensure completion. The impact of these projects extends beyond the university, benefiting both UMD students and the College Park community, making their success deeply fulfilling for Marlee.
Her experience as project manager of AEES has profoundly influenced Marlee, as she feels she has been able to effect real change at her school and within her local community. By leading these projects, she has empowered numerous club members, helping them overcome their initial hesitations and build confidence in their abilities. Through this role, Marlee has achieved a diverse range of project goals, learning new skills while also applying her knowledge to assist others. The opportunity to lead has enabled her to support environmental initiatives and promote eco-friendly practices, ultimately contributing to a happier and healthier local community, which she finds to be the most rewarding aspect of her involvement in the club.
Joohyang Chang
Sophomore Cell Biology and Genetics major Joanna Chang is a pre-med student in the Integrated Life Sciences (ILS) Honors Program at University of Maryland (UMD). She serves as an Honors Ambassador for the Honors College and is a peer mentor for ILS. Joanna is part of the 2024-2025 cohort in the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN) program, working on her internship project titled, "Identifying Trends in the Production and Use of Cosmetics by Analyzing Industry and Consumer Inquiries." She is involved in UMD's One Tent Health, serving as a volunteer to provide free HIV screenings in HIV-burdened communities in Washington, D.C.. With her experiences in public health research and community service, she intends on pursuing an MD/PhD to become the healthcare professional and researcher she envisions herself to be. Apart from her scientific pursuits, Joanna is a serving member of the Kharis Campus Ministry praise team. Moreover, with her passion for teaching, she works as a SAT math tutor, tutoring high school students in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area. Lastly, as a Korean-American immigrant, she has contributed to her community by acting as a lecturer and writer to educate the next generation about the history and culture of the Korean cuisine and their immigration story.
Sierra Chapman-Hornsby
Sierra Chapman is a junior at The University of Maryland College Park, majoring in Civil Engineering on the Environmental and Water Resources track, with a minor in Sustainability as well as Global Engineering Leadership. She also is a graduate of the Environment, Technology, and Economy program of College Park Scholars. She is committed to her campus community through an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow position for an Engineering, Ethics and Humanity class as well as being a volunteer for the Civil Engineering department and in the Student Success Leadership Council (SSLC). While maintaining a federal work-study position at the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics and a part-time job in the University of Maryland Athletics Department. Sierra is captivated by the issues of environmental justice, sustainability, and the issue of climate change and how the government plans to address these issues through policy. As a result of her varied experiences, she provides unique solutions to many issues. She recently used this compassion to work with the DICT Philippines to generate a framework for implementing joint trenching to provide more sustainable infrastructure against natural disasters. She is hopeful to enact change within underserved communities throughout her academic years as well as in her future endeavors.
Arman Charkhabi
Being a tour guide has been one of the most rewarding parts of Arman’s college experience. Over the years, he’s come to understand how to connect with visitors, making sure they feel welcome and informed about what makes UMD such a special place. Arman is especially passionate about helping others from diverse backgrounds navigate their way to and through college, particularly within the Computer, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) fields. In his role as a CMNS Ambassador, Arman is deeply committed to making STEM careers more accessible and inclusive, and he hopes to ease incoming students' concerns about these challenging yet rewarding majors. As a former Life Science Scholars Peer Mentor and Engagement Assistant, Arman has had the honor of guiding freshman students through their college journey. He takes pride in being a "big brother" and role model, sharing the insights and information he wished he had as an incoming student. Arman’s efforts to help students overcome obstacles and build a supportive community have been recognized with the Scholars Citizenship Award, a testament to his dedication and leadership within the Scholars program.
Shiloh Christian
Throughout her time at UMD, Shiloh Christian has been a part of Students Engaged in Public Health, Maryland Promise Program, and an Academic Peer Mentor for STAT100. Being a part of SEIPH has taught her the importance of public health as well as sharing that to others on campus through hosting events and annual conferences. Being a Maryland Promise Scholar has taught Shiloh many skills and lessons that she can carry into her future. Shiloh has had opportunities to meet her scholarship donor, donors in her future career field, and important figures within the university. Being an AMP has taught Shiloh leadership skills and allowed her to network with professors and students, an opportunity she would not have had without this role.
Jasmin Cruz
As a first-generation transfer student from Montgomery College, Jazmin’s journey at the University of Maryland has been one of resilience and unwavering passion. Transitioning to a new academic environment while balancing a full-time job and a rigorous school schedule has been challenging. Still, it has also shaped Jasmin into a stronger, more focused individual. Jasmin’s commitment to her studies in Hearing and Speech Sciences is driven by a profound desire to make a difference in the lives of others, particularly children with communication disorders. At UMD, Jasmin has embraced every opportunity to grow both academically and personally. Joining the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) has allowed her to expand her network and connect with like-minded peers who share a passion for helping others. This experience has deepened Jasmin’s understanding of the SLP field and fueled her ambition to contribute meaningfully to the diverse Terp community.
Chidobem Ikuemesi
Chidobem Ikuemesi’s experience at the University of Maryland has been nothing short of amazing. He originally came to Maryland during the last school year (2023-24) as a transfer student from Montgomery College. As soon as he stepped on campus, Chidobem knew he could make a home for himself here in College Park. He’s met many great people and has gotten involved in a lot of events, specifically at the Nyumburu Cultural Center, which became somewhat of a second dorm for him last school year. Chidoben attended his first ever career fair, met his first mentor, and learned how to network. What excites him the most is the fact that this is only the beginning, as Chidobem has only been a Terp for one year. He looks forward to growing and progressing with each passing day.
Neha Islam
Neha Islam is an Information Science student at the University of Maryland, where she has had the opportunity to join technology-focused clubs and attend different career and major-specific events. As an introvert, these experiences helped push Neha out of her comfort zone, helping her develop confidence, connect with peers and professionals, and explore different career paths within the tech field. Despite facing financial challenges, Neha’s time and experience at Maryland has been crucial in shaping her academic and career goals and she’s determined to continue growing both personally and professionally.
Mia Jocic
On campus, Mia Jocic is involved in UMD's iGEM team. iGEM is the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition; this is a club that provides great opportunities to combine engineering and synthetic biology in the pursuit of solving a problem of our choosing. This year Mia and her team are developing a cervical precancer screening tool. She’s a former Wet Lab Chair that led the execution of lab protocols and guided other students in the lab. Currently, Mia is a Human Practices and Outreach Chair ensuring that uses ethical, regulatory, and efficacy considerations to guide project development. She will also continue to be a WIE tutor for the second year in a row. Moreover, Mia is the only junior that has been promoted to a Peer Mentor Coordinator within the Sheila Rohra WIE Connect Peer Mentoring Program.
Jake Kranz
In his time at Maryland, Jake has taken part in a lot of things outside of school. Jake joined a fraternity which allowed him to have great experiences in leadership through holding different positions, networking, and community involvement where they have raised a lot of money for charitable causes. Jake also joined the investment club to further pursue his professional interests and continue to learn about new things. He also played intramural soccer for the past 3 years, which is something that he’s looked forward to each year.
Thirein Kyaw
Thirein Kyaw is currently a rising Senior and Psychology major at UMD. He’s currently a research assistant at the Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience Lab and has had the opportunity to present his research twice at research conferences. Thirein’s first research project was about examining the relationship between smiling, autism and social anxiety. His second research project was about how eye tracking data can be used to measure social anxiety within autistic and non-autistic individuals. Thirein is also a member of Psi Chi and is an office assistant at the David C. Driskell Center.
Hai-Minh Nguyen
Hai- Minh “Tom” Nguyen, and he is pursuing a graduate degree in Operations Management and Business Analytics at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Growing up in Hanoi, Vietnam, Tom developed a passion for using data analytics to improve operational efficiencies and make retail environments more accessible. At Maryland, Tom has been actively involved in the Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) and Operations bU where he’s taken on leadership roles and worked on initiatives that celebrate diversity and enhance student experiences.

Marissa Shatzer
Marissa Shatzer is a rising junior double majoring in finance and management. She currently works as an office manager for a small business in Baltimore. Marissa is interested in pursuing a career in investment banking after graduating. Her Maryland experience has been wonderful so far and some of the organizations that Marissa is involved with are Food Recovery Network, Justice For Fraud Victims and Alpha Phi Fraternity.
Eli Ward
Eli Ward is entering their third year at the University of Maryland. Eli is a Criminology & Criminal Justice and Psychology double major with a minor in MLAW. Eli is a member of both the FIRE research program and the Criminology and Criminal Justice Honors program. In addition to these programs, Eli’s also involved in multiple groups on campus such as the law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, Buddhist Philosophy for Peace, and the Food Recovery Network.
Payton Wenczkowski
Payton Wenczkowski was a transfer student last year. Payton immediately made lifelong friends and felt welcomed when she came to Maryland. She has always felt super passionate about helping others, so Payton is pursuing a nursing degree from University of Maryland. Payton spends her free time supporting all the sports teams on campus and walking around campus and college park.

Nina Belliveau
Nina Belliveau is entering her junior year at the University of Maryland. She is currently studying sociology with a strong focus in social statistics and analytics. Her experience here at UMD has been an unparalleled one. Throughout these first couple of years she has had the opportunity to gain a profound understanding of the social world that surrounds us. Today, she reminisces about her high school graduation where she stood in cap and gown, believing that she had learned all there is to know about social science. Unbeknownst to her, Nina would soon have the privilege of attending one of the best institutions in the U.S where her knowledge of sociology would expand significantly. She can recall numerous times being in a lecture hall and taking a step back to acknowledge the brilliant minds that surrounded me. Knowing that she is a part of this intellectual community gives her immense pride.
Nicholas Bradford
Nicholas Bradford is majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice. 2023 was his first semester at UMD after transferring from UMBC and he really enjoys it at UMD. The atmosphere and student life is very different and the school spirit is unmatched here. He wants to graduate with his bachelors degree and get a job in his desired career field and eventually come back to get a masters or even doctorate in the future.
Alyssa Taylor
Alyssa Taylor is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park majoring in government and politics with a concentration in international relations. As well as a minor in Korean studies and certificate in East Asian studies. Her interests include diplomacy, international education, and international relations and comparative politics in East Asia. Alyssa's topics of interest have developed from her work experience and international experience as well as her love for learning about cultures and languages. She participated in the Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program at Howard University in Washington D.C. as a Rangel scholar. In addition, Alyssa worked as an education intern for FOREFRONT Charity and worked at the University of Maryland, College Park's Education Abroad office as a short-term programs student assistant. As well as an English speaking partner for the Maryland English Institute at the University of Maryland, and Liberty in North Korea in Seoul, South Korea. Alyssa studied abroad at Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea for an academic year. Alyssa aspires to be a public diplomacy foreign service officer with the U.S. State Department, or a program officer with the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs or Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Anoushka Shahni
2023-2024 Scholar
Anoushka Shahni’s experience at Maryland has been nothing short of amazing. Since she has been here, her love and passion for computer science has soared. She was also able to discover her love for Mathematics under inspiring professors and mentors. The university gave her opportunities to do what she loves and excel in those fields. Anous
hka has been a math coach, and was offered the position of head coach. She’s also a TA for a CMSC330, and has been Head TA for the past 2 semesters. Furthermore, as a woman of color in CS, Maryland has helped her find a home in a field that is so male dominated. Anoushka has been a recipient of the GHC scholarship twice, where she was offered an internship at Goldman Sachs, as well as the Richard Tapia Conference. She has been a part of hackathons like Technica, Bitcamp, successfully completing research projects under PhD mentors. She’s also been a part of organizations like BreakthroughTech, AWC, etc. The University has also given her many opportunities and resources to conduct research with professors who are experts in the field.
Kyong Kwok
Throughout his time at the University of Maryland, Kyong Kwok has tried to take advantage of every opportunity this large institution has to offer. He has spent every semester in college taking 16 to 19 credits pursuing a major in Physiology & Neurobiology, fulfilling a minor in Classical Mythology, researching child language acquisition through the Linguistics department, and completing prerequisite courses for dental school applications. Aside from academics, he is also involved in a number of service and social clubs on campus, including Terps for Change, Peer-to-Peer, Be the Match, Global Dental Brigades, Jammin' at Maryland, and the professional, co-ed, pre-health fraternity Delta Epsilon Mu. Some of these involvements include leadership positions, such as being an executive board member for DEM and Peer-to-Peer.
Kyong is now a rising senior undergraduate student on a pre-dental track, and is applying to dental schools this cycle. His goal is to go straight into dental school from college without taking any gap years while continuing to expand my involvement with campus communities.
Neil Parikh
Neil Parikh is a Biology undergraduate in his Junior year. His ultimate academic goal is to complete his M.D. and become a surgeon so that he can save lives, including those that cannot afford healthcare.
Nicholas Briggs
My Maryland experience has been nothing short of amazing, especially when I considered transferring freshman year. During my COVID-19 freshman year, I was depressed, bored, and upset with my college experience. However, I knew this couldn't be the end, and I knew that UMD has so much more to offer. Therefore, I remained patient, and once campus life went to normal, I fully immersed myself in the Terrapin culture. I successfully got into the Robert H. Smith School of Business and achieved the Dean's List every semester, while joining a business fraternity and other clubs within the Business School. Furthermore, I joined a social fraternity and made many relationships that will last a lifetime. I also learned leadership skills while holding the position of recruitment chair, thus coordinating and collaborating with others in a fast-paced and intense environment. Looking back, the experiences at the University of Maryland have made me a better person and prepared me for what life has to offer, and I am forever grateful.
Payten Flanigan
Payten Flanigan is a rising senior at the university and has been involved in engineering student groups since freshman year. She was a FLEXUS student and a current Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Alpha Omega Epsilon member. This upcoming school year she has the privilege of being the President of SWE. This past summer Payten had her first internship experience at a satellite company called SES. This is where she discovered my interest in satellite technology, communication, and engineering. She hopes to continue to further this interest in her future career and academics.

Jake Kranz
Jake Kranz is a NJ resident entering my third year at the University of Maryland. He is a declared Economics BS major with a minor in Statistics. While at UMD he has had the privilege of taking courses in multiple departments. The increased exposure to different fields has helped Jake choose a major/minor that checked all the boxes for him. The professors have challenged him academically, in ways he’s never been challenged before. Jake is looking forward to utilizing the career services in his junior year and applying to internships for the upcoming summer.
Jihwun Lee
Jihwun Lee is currently a junior, pursuing a degree in Public Health Science while following the pre-dental track. Throughout his academic journey, he has actively engaged in extracurricular activities, including participation in a professional pre-health fraternity and club soccer. His passion for leadership roles and my commitment to community service have always driven him. In pursuit of these interests, Jihwun dedicated himself to securing an executive board position at Camp Kesem, an organization that holds deep personal significance for him. Camp Kesem is a nonprofit that provides support to children whose lives have been affected by cancer. His involvement with this organization commenced during my sophomore year, and he finds great fulfillment in working to assist and uplift these young individuals during challenging times. Jihwun has also been working as a dental assistant in Lutherville Timonium, where he learned a lot of skills, essential for the professional, health environment.
Ross Sawilowsky
Ross Sawilowsky is studying Psychology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies. He is a student staff member at Fostering Terp Success (FTS) as well as at the LGBTQ+ Equity Center. At FTS, he assists with program management and executes the weekly student newsletter, advertising upcoming events, scholarship, and job opportunities, as well as giving students gentle reminders to engage in self-care. In his second semester working with the LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Ross proposed and executed a series of programming to increase trans inclusion at UMD.
In his free time, he functions as President for Campus Queers and Allies as well as Male Identified Queers. Lastly, Ross has been involved with advocacy work to push for the increase of multi-stall gender neutral restrooms on campus, and recently became the President of the Pride Alliance.
Vienne Ladoulis-Urban
During her time at the University of Maryland, Vienne Ladoulis-Urban has taken the initiative to step into leadership roles she didn’t always feel qualified for but knew that with time and experience, the opportunities would allow her to grow professionally and personally. She has stepped into a leadership role at The Women's Network as Lead Campus Ambassador, and she has stepped into a leadership role as Director of Communications and Marketing at Dare to Dream, a student-founded non-profit out of the Do Good program. Vienne has continued to seek out opportunities that put her outside of her comfort zone to allow her to continue growing and connecting with new people and opportunities. She is grateful to Maryland for providing a safe, inspirational, and encouraging place to grow and learn.
Hannah Treger
Hannah Treger has loved her time at Maryland and in the School of Public Health. She is majoring in Public Health Science and double minoring in Health, Humanities, and Medicine and General Business. She is involved in the SPH Alumni Mentor Program, Maryland Images, and Greek Life. Next year Hannah will continue at UMD after graduation in the Accelerated BS+MPH program, getting her Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Healthcare Management.

Aaraa Brown
Aaraa Brown is a first-generation college student, who was born and raised in Washington, DC. Aaraa is currently majoring in Special Education. Ms.Brown’s personal experiences drive her passion for Mental Health and Educational advocacy. Her future aspirations include obtaining dual Master’s degrees in Social Work and Special Education, which she hopes to use to alleviate systematic social, and educational disparities experienced by minority students.
Anoushka Shahani
Anoushka Shahani is a rising junior majoring in CS and minoring in Mathematics. She has been on the Dean's List since her first semester and has also been awarded CS Honors. Anoushka is a recipient of the OMSE Award for 2 consecutive years. Her interests lie in AI/ML and Programming Languages. Anoushka is keen on pursuing a Master's (through the 4+1 program) and a PhD at UMD.
Caroline Martin
Caroline Martin is a senior from Allendale, New Jersey. She is studying both Marketing in the Robert H. Smith School of Business and Criminal Justice in the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences. On campus, Caroline serves on the executive board for Kappa Alpha Theta as the Vice President of Membership. During the school year, she works at the College Park Grill as a waitress and interns with the Coalition for Juvenile Justice, a nonprofit focused on juvenile justice reform. In the future, Caroline hopes to attend law school.
Caroline Howser
Caroline Howser is from Baltimore, MD. She’s a rising junior studying government and politics and global terrorism studies. On-campus Caroline is involved in SGA, Phi Alpha Delta, the Title IX Advisory Board, Empowering Women in Law, Triota, the GVPT Honors Program, and Delta Phi Epsilon. After earning her bachelor's degree, Caroline plans on attending law school, becoming an attorney, and then eventually opening her own firm.

Cecelia Dworak is a University of Maryland student studying education and politics, with the hope of eventually creating change for high school students across Maryland. Outside of class she is a Resident Assistant and the elected Student Government representative for the Cambridge Community. In her free time, Cecelia enjoys running and swimming, watching trashy reality television, and practicing nail and makeup art.
Damiana Colley
Damiana Colley is an upcoming Junior at The University of Maryland, College Park double majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Psychology. When she is not at school, Damiana lives in the small town of Berlin, Maryland just ten miles away from the beaches of Ocean City. In her free time, she enjoys reading philosophical texts, creating art, listening to music, and doing yoga. More recently, Damiana has gotten into reading fictional novels as well as writing one of her own. Damiana is passionate about issues surrounding sexual assault, domestic violence, and intimate partner violence, and she’s recently been elected as the Historian for PSA UMD. She also has a Violence Intervention Certificate through the C.A.R.E office at UMD, furthering her knowledge and allowing her to help a range of individuals. Damiana spends the majority of my summers working at a Watersports company, building experience in communication and customer service. In the future, Damiana hopes to graduate from UMD in the Class of 2024 with a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and a degree in Psychology that will enable her to become a criminal psychologist.
Daniel Soltis
Daniel Soltis is currently a senior at the University of Maryland College Park majoring in information science. He is a transfer student and has made UMD his new home while working a job through the school year to make ends meet. The Terp Family scholarship was an opportunity for Daniel to get some extra help with it all.
Duran Kelly
Duran Kelly Jr. is currently a junior majoring in Information Science from Baltimore Maryland. Duran is actively involved in the fitness industry by helping others train to be the best version of themselves. He has two younger sisters who are six and nine years old.
Eladia Elliot
Eladia Elliott is a rising senior majoring in Animal Science - Care and Management in the AGNR College. Her future career goal is to become a certified, small animal Veterinary Technician. Eladia also would like to get involved in animal enrichment at wildlife sanctuaries. A major hobby of hers is learning languages and Eladia is currently self-teaching herself Korean but will be taking official classes in the upcoming semesters. Eladia is excited to see where my college career takes me.
Emily Swensen
Emily Swensen is going into her Junior year at University of Maryland. Emily is studying Government and Politics and International Business with hopes of pursuing business law. Emily is involved in the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta and she just completed the Justice and Legal Thought Scholars Program.

Emmanuella Naa Ahema Quarcoo is from Ghana in the Western part of Africa. She is a junior at the University of Maryland and majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology & Neurobiology. Emmanuella is a young woman who loves music, cooking and taking care of little kids. All in all, Emmanuella is a hardworking and conscientious student who aspires to be a great medical doctor in the near future.

Fadel Muzahdi is a junior majoring in Information Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. Fadel wants to work as a software engineer or data analyst upon graduating to build a valuable foundation to eventually work for notable companies that are highly influential around the world. Faris Prasetiawan
Faris Prasetiawan is from Frederick, Maryland. He studies Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science as Minor because he is interested in the automotive field and robotics. On campus, Faris is active in the Terps Racing EV club as the Chief Mechanical Engineer working to build an electric race car!
Hannah Treger
Hannah Treger is a junior studying Public Health and hopes to pursue a career in healthcare management and possibly continue on to become a Physician Assistant. Hannah is also involved in Maryland Images, School of Public Health Alumni network, and the UTA program.
Hunter DeVito
Hunter DeVito is a senior at the University of Maryland. Hunter is currently studying hearing and speech sciences and her future goal is to become a pediatric speech therapist. After graduation, Hunter will work as a speech language assistant in order to gain experience in the field. Hunter plans on continuing her education into graduate school where she will receive her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Isabela Rey
Isabela Rey is a music education major expected to graduate in the Spring of 2023. Isabela’s primary instrument is the bassoon, and music has always been a very big part of her life. So many teachers, music teachers in specific, have had such an incredible impact on Isabela’s life that she wants to give support to students the way that her teachers gave support to her. After graduation Isabela hopes to be an elementary school band director. Isabela has had a wonderful time participating in several ensembles at UMD as well as a variety of education classes, and she can't wait to share what I have learned here with my future students!
Jason Manzon
Jason Manzon is a rising junior at the University of Maryland, College Park. Jason is attending college so that he may support his mother in the future, make a difference in his career field, and pull himself and his family out of financial insecurity. Jason questions his decision to attend college every day, as the cost of living especially with preexisting conditions rises. Despite this Jason will be sure to make the most of his college education and set himself up for success.
Jennifer Luz Guzman
Jennifer Luz Guzman is a first-generation college graduate pursuing an economics degree. Upon graduation, Jennifer plans to pursue a career as an economist. Being the first in her family to go to college has been tough but it has taught Jennifer that she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.
Joey Kim
Joey Kim is a junior physics major at the University of Maryland, with an interest in unconventional computing and theoretical biology. Outside of the sciences, Joey is interested in anthropology, historical linguistics, and the study of rituals and religion. In his free time, Joey enjoys studying other ancient languages, calligraphy, composing poetry, and analyzing religious texts and practices.

Kierra Hughes is an aspiring social worker and psychologist for children/kids. She attended Prince Georges Community College to start her higher education career. Olivia Wolfson is from Ocean Township, New Jersey and is double majoring in journalism and government and politics. She is Vice President of Programming for her sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon, and Senior Editor of the online publication Her Campus Maryland. She wants to either go into political journalism after college or attend law school.
Oluwaseun Sule
Oluwaseun Sule is at the Univesity of Maryland, College Park where she is majoring in Public Health and minorining in Science Technology, Ethics, and Policy. Some of Oluwaseun’s hobbies are traveling and film photography. She listens to lots of R&B, afro beats, and a little bit of alternative music. She looks forward in graduating next spring!
Oscar Soto
Oscar Soto is a civil engineering student at the University of Maryland following the Geotechnical & Structural Engineering degree track with the goal of becoming a structural engineer. Originally transferring from Montgomery College, Oscar is entering his fifth year studying to become a structural engineer. His favorite classes include ENCE200 Engineering Computation and ENCE305 Fluids. With a strong background in mathematics and physics, Oscar has served as a tutor and mentor for other students for 4 years, and is planning to continue supporting students in these areas in the coming academic year. Outside of academics, Oscar enjoys playing video games, hanging out with friends, and watching anime.
Phillip Manzon
Phillip Manzon is a junior undergraduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is majoring in Environmental Science and Policy with a concentration in Politics and Policy, as well as minoring in Sustainability Studies. Phillip is eager to use a passion for advocacy and public service to solve problems and make progress toward spreading knowledge about pressing environmental issues. Through the Federal Fellows Program at UMD, Phillip intends to find an internship in public service this academic year.
Reignah Johnson
Reignah Johnson is a Junior Kinesiology major and Public Leadership minor, hoping to contribute in research and policy work one day. She is currently the Treasurer of the Kinesiology Student Organization and a Research Assistant for The Action Assemblage for Justice, Equity, and Peace. Reignah is also a current Interviewer for The Woodlawn Project in the School of Public Health.
Rebeca Fuquen
Rebeca Fuquen is an Animal Science and Studio Art dual degree student, pursuing veterinary school and/or scientific illustration. Beca is currently an undergraduate research assistant in the Carr Lab, and will be a peer mentor in the College of AGNR this year. She is passionate about the arts and animals, and loves being apart of various UMD clubs/organizations such as Sigma Alpha, MEC, FIRE, and MiNDS.
Renee Paulraj
Renee Paulraj is a Senior Government and Politics and Information Science double major on the pre-law track. During her time at the University of Maryland, she has been involved in the Design, Cultures, and Creativity honors program, the Global Fellows program, and the TerpsVote Coalition. Renee is especially interested in civil rights and founded a student chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union at the University of Maryland. She also serves as President of Girl Up, Presiding Officer and Chair of the University Student Judiciary, a member of the Student Conduct Review Coalition, Co-Captain on the Mock Trial team, and Communications Co-Chair of Omicron Delta Kappa.
Shekinah Brown
Shekinah Brown is an undergraduate at University of Maryland College park graduating Fall 2023 with an BA in Dance. Dance has always been a passion of hers and Shekinah is grateful to have spent her years dancing at UMD. Shekinah also has an Associate’s Degree in the Arts from Prince George's Community College where she had the opportunity to dance many times. Shekinah also writes poetry and had her poetry published American Poetry Association.
Terrence Manzon
Terrence Manzon is currently a rising junior mechanical engineering major at UMD with plans to begin a minor in sustainability next spring. Terrence previously interned at the CPSC and plans to work in a lab as a mechanical engineer after college. His goals with an engineering degree would be to explore this field of STEM that interests him so much and to provide financial support to his family.
Vené Richardson-Powell
Vené Richardson-Powell is a senior Bioengineering student and proud recipient of the 2022-2023 Terp Family Scholarship. Vené transferred to UMD in the Fall of 2020 and since transferring, she has joined a few student organizations and participated in fundraisers to support the College Park community. Vené also joined the Mueller Lab as an undergraduate researcher in the A. James Clark school of engineering where she optimizes parameters for a therapy that will treat pre-cervical cancer in low-and-middle income countries. In her last semester at UMD Vené will complete her Bioengineering coursework as an Exchange student in Australia. Post-graduation, Vené will apply to medical school, shadow physicians abroad, and continue as a researcher until she matriculates.
Victoria Silvani
Victoria Silvani was born and lives in Maryland, and is the second of four siblings. She is a full-time student studying Biology on a pre-med track. After Victoria graduates college, she plans on attending medical school and become a pediatric surgeon. Victoria enjoys outdoor activities and she’s a fitness instructor.

As a Civil Engineering major at the University of Maryland, I'm planning to gain a specialization in Structural Engineering. As my skills are continuously developing, I want to design, analyze, and rehabilitate bridges, roadways, emergency escape exits for high-rise buildings, and other structures in order to maintain reliability and safety for customers. I am honored and a proud recipient of the Michelle Humanick scholarship. The scholarship funds will be of great help with my school year expenses (such as tuition, books, and transportation) and keep me on track with pursuing both academic and career goals. I'm thankful for the Michelle Humanick Scholarship committee for reviewing my application and recognizing such great potential I have in pursuing my civil engineering career.

Chioma Ahaghotu was born and raised in Prince George's County, Maryland. She's currently a Sociology and Communication, Public Relation double majors here at the University of Maryland. When she has some free time, she enjoys hiking, writing, listening to music, and getting involved in this area. She was a part of RHA as Vice President of Marketing and Communication, a journalist for the black explosion newspaper and a tutor assistant for AAP. She previously interned at ABC7 - WJLA. She loves the life of the news world. After finishing up her internship and obtaining her bachelor's degree, she aims to land a news reporting job. She hopes to use her writing and communicating skills to uncover stories and share groundbreaking news to the public as a news anchor.

Kayli Burch was raised in Prince George's County, Maryland is currently entering her Junior year here at the University of Maryland. She is majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice and minoring in Global Terrorism Studies. Julian Chiveral
Julian Chiveral is starting their senior year at the University of Maryland, pursuing degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics with minors in nuclear engineering and sustainability studies. They are also in the Honors College and earned their University Honors citation during fall semester of 2018. They like to stay involved on campus, exploring their interests in student development and civic engagement. They serve as a Resident Assistant in Hagerstown Hall, home to the University Honors program and also are involved with the Residence Hall Association through which they represent the student body and create positive change on campus as the vice president. They are also excited to serve as the president of the Maryland chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Mathematics Honor Society.
Melissa Davis
Melissa Davis lives in Hagerstown, Maryland. She grew up living with her mom, her aunt and her two older brothers. For the 2019-2020 school year she is a senior at the University of Maryland, pursuing a Biology degree in Neurology & Physiology. She is also a member of the Universities Honors College. Melissa will be graduating in May 2020 after which she will take a gap year before applying to medical school. Over the last several years at UMD she has worked in a research lab on campus where she helps graduate and undergraduate students study the molecular mechanisms for sex determination in c. elegans. Additionally, she volunteers at a local park in Hyattsville MD where she works with other UMD students to remove invasive plants. For the past several years Davis has been a member of a student organization called Terp Thon. Through Terp Thon she has helped raise money for Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC and helped plan an annual Dance Marathon in the spring where over 2,000 students stand on their feet for 12 hours to represent the length of a typical nurse’s shift.
Kevin Flores
Kevin is a first-generation Salvadorian American from Glenmont, Maryland. He is a senior Public Health Science major and pre-medical student graduating this winter from the University of Maryland. He intends to take a gap year or two before medical school to work as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Oncology. Throughout his time at the University, Kevin has involved himself by volunteering in emergency rooms, as well as volunteering his abilities to interpret and advocate for Spanish-speaking patients and underinsured patients while working part-time with an oncology practice. Down the road, Kevin intends to pursue the Naval Health Profession Scholars Program. In his career, he hopes to ameliorate the social determinants of health to alleviate disparities in health outcomes. Kevin draws inspiration and motivation to pursue his goals from his passions for fairness, equality, and a desire to see his communities thrive.
Marie-Line Kam
Marie-Line Kam is a senior Public Health Science major on the pre-med track. In addition, she is also pursuing a certificate in Women’s Studies. She was raised in Prince George’s County and graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 2016 from the Science and Technology program. Marie-Line began her matriculation as a TERP in Fall 2017 when she transferred as a sophomore from the College Of Southern Maryland. At the University of Maryland, she has held various leadership positions in organizations such as the Charles R. Drew Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Society, as well as the Do Better UMD Community Service and Self-Improvement Organization. She is also in the 2019-2020 cohort for the prestigious Rawlings Undergraduate Leadership Fellows Program. Her career goal is to someday become an OBGYN and establish her very own women’s health care center in an underserved area. As a future physician, she hopes to be able to bridge the gap between maternal and fetal mortality as it relates to minorities.
Hannah Kleimenhagen
Hannah Kleimengaen is a rising junior at the University of Maryland. She grew up in a small town by the name of Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Attending school at UMD has been a great blessing; however, being an out of state student has led to financial struggles for her. With the help of the Maryland Parent and Family Association, Hannah is able to continue pursuing her degree in family science and public policy. Obtaining this degree will help her follow her dream of becoming a child life specialist.
Lindsay Miller
Lindsay Miller is a rising senior at The University of Maryland, College of Education. She is an honors student working towards a BS in Early Childhood and Special Education. She resides in Queens, New York, and plans to return back to NY postgraduate to pursue a career working as an Early Intervention Specialist. Lindsay is spending her summer working as a first grade teacher teaching mathematics and engineering.
Aaron Paisley
Aaron Paisley is a rising senior Government and Politics major on the International Relations track with a minor in Spanish. He is from Aberdeen Maryland in Harford County. His career goals are to work for the Department of State abroad as a foreign diplomat. He was formerly involved with the language house living-learning community in the Spanish cluster and now works two on-campus jobs. He is a resident assistant in South Campus Commons and he also works as a student driver for Shuttle-UM. In Aaron’s free time, he loves going on runs, attending UMD sporting events, watching professional soccer and auto racing, and working on his car.
Dina Teclu
Dina is a senior at the University of Maryland majoring in public health science and minoring in sustainability, and will be graduating in May 2020. On campus, she is involved in various clubs, such as the Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Association, the Anthropology Student Association, and Public Health without Borders. Furthermore she has also been a part of the Primanuum Honor Society and the Mortar Board National Honor Society. Dina has participated in volunteer and professional experiences, such as the Alternative Break Program, during which she joined fellow Terps in traveling to Boston to learn about sustainable agriculture and food security, and to volunteer at local gardens, markets, and homeless shelters. For the past two summers, Dina has worked for the Conferences and Visitors Services as a Desk Specialist, in which she is pleased to engage with various guests throughout their programs and events on our amazing campus. This summer, she is also interning at a non-profit organization called Results for Development, where she works as an Innovation Data Intern within the Global Innovation Exchange. She has been working this role since spring semester of junior year, during which she has worked on various projects such as providing grant opportunities for social entrepreneurs in low- and middle-income countries, and assisting the UN with their Science, Technology and Innovation Forum for the Sustainable Development Goals. After these work experiences and graduation, Dina hopes to become more engaged in the public health and non-profit sector, as she is most passionate about providing solutions for international development in health systems and services.
Deborah Brown
Deborah Brown grew up in Houston, Texas. She is entering her sophomore year at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, where she is studying Supply Chain Management and Operations Management/Business Analytics. She has always been a hard worker and is determined to make the most out of college both academically and socially. Especially after her home has flooded many times, she truly appreciates the various opportunities she has at a campus like this one.

Mirinda Keane
Mirinda Keane is a senior at the University of Maryland studying public health science and is graduating in December 2018. On campus, Mirinda has served on the executive board for Nourish, a club dedicated to reducing poor birth outcomes in the surrounding community by donating groceries and corresponding recipes to mothers in need each week. She has also worked for Resident Life as a Community Assistant and loves being involved in on campus life. This summer, Mirinda is interning at Save the Children, where has been working on the Domestic Emergency Team, which supports children in times of disaster in the United States and educates on the importance of emergency preparedness. After her summer internship and graduation in the fall of 2018, Mirinda hopes to further her presence in the world of public health and make a difference for mothers and children across the globe.
Abishek Suresh
Abishek Suresh is a rising junior at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is from Frederick, MD and have been living in the state for about 6 years. He enjoys playing basketball, investing in stocks and cryptocurrency, reading the New York Times, and listening to pop music on Spotify. He is currently studying Finance and Information Systems at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, where he is involved in many academic-related clubs which help him focus on his ability to grow experiences and create opportunities for connections and internships. He has the humble experience of doing abroad client work, where he was able to create a detailed RFP for a client in Uganda who has a developing business in the route app industry. Through this opportunity, his team and he were able to form cohesive ideas that allowed their client to improve his business processes and essentially decrease costs overtime. He is grateful to have received this scholarship award that will allow him to further enhance his education at the University of Maryland and make a positive difference in his community and more.

Jordan Al-Faleh
Jordan Al-Faleh is a junior at University of Maryland currently enrolled in the Kinesiology program. She plans to finish her bachelors and continue on to the University of Maryland School of Medicine from there she would like to become an anesthesiologist. Her passions are volunteering throughout his different communities, animals, physical and mental health awareness, and figuring out new and exciting ways to incorporate all her passions together.
Kamia McGuire
Kamia McGuire is a fifth year senior Accounting and Management double major graduating Spring 2019. Originally from Baltimore, MD and an elder of four children, she plans to take the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam. Following the completion of her certification she wants to work for a public accounting firm in audit services where she’d dedicate approximately 5-10 years. Succeeding audit, Kamia plans to extend her career into forensic accounting where she will retire with hopes of starting a nonprofit providing financial literacy to impoverished single parent families in Baltimore, MD.
Yana Kramarenko
Yana Kramarenko was born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine. She moved to Maryland in 2009. She became interested in the criminal justice field after volunteering with the Montgomery County Post 1986. She is currently a student in the Criminology & Criminal Justice program at the University of Maryland. She anticipates to graduate in December 2018. This summer, Yana holds an internship with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism. She is a part of the Center for Advanced Study of Language project where she develops a cybercrime course module. Recently, she has also completed the Interprofessional Fellowship Program at the Universities at Shady Grove with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. For the past three years, Yana has been working in the Asset Protection department at a local retailer, where her main job is to provide safety and security. Her long-term career goal is to work for the federal government where she can utilize her professional and academic knowledge in crime prevention, safety, and security to help combat threats made to the public and national security.
Krystle Foy
My name is Krystle Foy and I live in Severn, Maryland. I am heading into my senior year at the University of Maryland College of Education and will graduate with my Master’s degree in Elementary Special Education in the Spring of 2020. My journey began when I left a ten-year career in insurance sales to pursue a career in special education. My goal is to teach students with moderate to severe disabilities, either in a special needs school or a self-contained classroom within a general education school. My motivation to change careers comes from my personal experiences. My daughter is eight-years-old and dual diagnosed with Down syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder (DS-ASD). Since the day she was born, she continuously serves as my daily inspiration and motivation. I have become immersed in the world of “exceptionalities” and know that I have found my place in life. My goal is not only to earn my degree, but to achieve the highest level of academic success I possibly can, to make my daughter proud, and to make myself proud. I am a single mother and if it were not for the help of scholarship donors, I truly would not be able to achieve my goals. Words truly cannot express how grateful I am for the support that I have been given along my journey.
Nana Afful
Nana Afful is a Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurobiology major from Gaithersburg who will be graduating in May of 2019 from and hopes to attend medical school in Maryland to achieve her goal of becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon. While at Montgomery College, Nana tutored at the Science Learning Center. She also worked with the head of the biology department at Montgomery College Germantown on identifying a new eye color in drosophila. Currently, she assists the University of Maryland-Insect Transformation Facility at the Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology Research. Additionally, she is a teaching assistant for Cell Biology and has served over 400 hours volunteering at Holy Cross Hospital assisting doctors and nurses.
When she is not working, she takes her disabled mother to physical therapy and assists her sister with her new business.
Morgan Castle
Morgan Castle is a junior at University of Maryland, College Park studying Information Science with a minor in ACES Honor Cybersecurity. She hopes to pursue a career at NSA and ideally start her own business in the cybersecurity field. She is also very passionate about traveling and would like to travel around the world after school to indulge in other cultures. She is a very hardworking and dedicated person and would love to use her skills and position to give back in any way possible to people in need. She enjoys hiking, reading, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Her biggest motivator is her mother who has shown her where hard work and devotion can take you.
She is currently a Systems Engineer intern at Raytheon, an aerospace and defense company, where she is able to learn new skills and expand her knowledge in areas she has been exposed to and also get a taste of what she hopes to pursue after finishing school. She hopes to continue working part-time at Raytheon in the upcoming semester at UMD. She aspires to join more clubs and activities this semester like the newspaper club, an animal shelter, dance and potentially a technology sorority/fraternity.
Marion Marcelle Irvin
Marion Irvin is a senior dietetics major from Cumberland, Maryland. Upon graduation, she hopes to be completing her residency for dietetics in the DC area and gain her RD credentials. Long term, here goal is to be in a clinical setting, while also working to increase preventative care in her country through nutrition.

I am a second-year Criminal Justice major with minors in Global Poverty and Public Leadership from Niagara Falls, NY. I am also in the University Honors and Beyond the Classroom programs. I intend to graduate a year early from UMD in Spring 2019, so I consider myself to be a junior. I currently serve as Chair of the Appellate Board in the University Student Judiciary, and I was selected to join USJ's Executive Board as Selections Co-Chair for 2018-2019 year. I am also finishing my second semester as a Team Leader for the educational advocacy organization Partners in Print, which is based out of STAMP and part of the America Reads/America Counts program.
Additionally, I founded a new club at UMD last semester, the Out-of-State Student Association, in order to create a supportive environment to help out-of-state students like myself make friends on campus and explore the local area. As president, I have been working extremely hard this semester to recruit more members and get it off the ground. I am a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Phi Sigma honor societies, and I served on the APS Executive Board last semester. I have also been named to the BSOS Distinguished Dean's List for Outstanding Students every semester that I have attended UMD. After graduation, I hope to attend law school so I can practice criminal law as a prosecutor.

Chinemerem is from Long Island, New York and studies Family Science. She plans to pursue a career in integrative medicine and advocate for holistic health care centers.
Francine Baker
Francine Baker is a is first generation Jamaican-American attending the University of Maryland, College Park via the Universities at Shady Grove. She is currently in her last semester as an undergraduate student studying Public Health Science. Upon graduation, Francine will apply for graduate school with hopes of studying the science that drives public health. Francine's long term career goal is to join the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service as a Science and Research Health Professions Officer. I also hope to return to University of Maryland as a faculty member. My time at Maryland has been very rewarding. I would love to give back to the UMD community by inspiring other students to become strong, confident public health professionals as the School of Public Health faculty has inspired me.
Anna Bieganowska
Anna Bieganowska is a current sophomore at the University of Maryland pursuing a dual-degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology and Psychology. This is supplemented with a minor in Spanish and independent study of Polish. She is currently drafting a research paper on the modern democratic crisis in Poland for her honors citation, which was inspired by her background as a Polish immigrant.
Currently, she is proud to represent Maryland in the marching band, to gain an interdisciplinary study of the world through the Honors Humanities program, and to maintain student rights alongside fostering campus safety through serving on a board in the University Student Judiciary. Looking forward, she hopes to utilize all she learns at Maryland to become an intelligence analyst for the FBI, assisting in its mission of advancing justice in the United States.
Aryssa Burrs
Aryssa Leigh Burrs, Mezzo-Soprano, is a Music Education: Choral/General and Vocal Performance student at the University of Maryland. She is a member and soloist of The University of Maryland Chamber Singers, who have performed concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She was Music Director for Faux Paz, the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Champions of the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella. Aryssa’s recent performance credits include: The Wild Party (Kate).
Jochebed Cadet
Jochebed Cadet is a first-generation Haitian American from Beltsville, Maryland. She is a senior majoring in Sociology with minors in French Literature and Language as well as Professional Writing. After obtaining her Bachelor's degree, she hopes to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Sociology and later work on conducting research that helps minority students with educational attainment and understanding how students shape their view of education.
Danielle Cohen
Danielle is a senior from Northborough, Massachusetts. She is double majoring in Mathematics on the Statistics Track and Economics and pursuing a career in actuarial science.
John Foresman
John is a senior in the Robert H. Smith School of Business and studies Finance. He was originally born in Erie, Pennsylvania, but has spent most of his life in Ridgewood, NJ (25 minutes outside of NYC). After graduation, he plans to fulfill his Army ROTC obligation and become a second lieutenant in the United States Army. Down the road he would like to find work in the Investment Banking industry.
Sarah Fry
Sarah is from Severn, Maryland and majors in Mathematics with a statistics track. Upon graduating, she plans to move to California and become an actuary. Pictured is the service dog she trained and recently adopted.
Tyra Hooper
Tyra Hooper is a senior Community Health major and will be graduating this Fall 2017. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, she plans to return there post graduation and attend graduate school. She plans to attend a strong MPH program where she can study Public Health and Public Policy and help ensure communities are optimally healthy, domestically and at large.
Joseph Horwitz
Joseph Horwitz is a senior, Criminal Justice/Criminology major from Glenview, Illinois. He currently serves as a Student Police Aide with the University of Maryland Police Department with aspirations to work in federal law enforcement
Christopher Park
Chris Park is a senior accounting and finance major. He grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland and attended Mt. Hebron High School. After graduation, he hopes to pass my CPA exam and work for a public accounting firm.
Milton Rivera-Ventura
Milton Rivera is from Rockville, MD. He is a junior majoring in architecture with a minor in Real Estate Development. After graduating undergrad he plans to go to graduate school and pursue his career in Real Estate.
Nishwath Samiya
Niswath is currently a senior majoring in Finance and Information Systems. She is from the College Park area. Her future plans include starting her own company that works with refugees and helps them resettle into society.
Thalia Villatoro
Thalia Villatoro is from El Salvador and has been living in Washington, DC since the age of three. Thalia is currently in her last semester and majoring in Criminal Justice. She hopes to attend graduate school while working as a federal agent where she can make a positive impact by helping deter crime.
