Patricia S. Higgins Scholarship Fund
About The Patricia S. Higgins
Patricia S. Higgins worked for Dining Services at the University of Maryland for more than 46 years, including twelve as director. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University and in 1995 she was named Director of Dining Services. In 1999 she was the recipient of a President's Distinguished Service Award, which honors longtime employees who have provided outstanding service to the University community. During her tenure she raised the quality of the department to equal the best university dining programs in the country.
Despite her numerous accomplishments, she is most fondly remembered for her compassion for the Dining Services team and her fierce dedication to every guest on campus. As an ADA Registered Dietitian, Mrs. Higgins shared her passion for nutritious, flavorful food (especially food with "Maryland flair"!) with students, faculty, and staff. She always believed in treating people with compassion and impartiality and took great pride in helping staff at every level maximize their professional potential.
A compassionate leader who truly cared about the campus, her department and the students and employees she served, she retired in 2007.
About The Fund
In order to preserve her legacy of caring, her friends and University colleagues established a fund to support scholarships for Dining Services employees and their dependents at the University. The Patricia S. Higgins Scholarship was established in February 2008 and a $1000 scholarship is awarded annually.
