Marylin K. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund
About Dr. Marylin K. Brown
In spite of a prolonged illness and difficult life circumstances as a single mother raising two daughters, Marylin maintained her belief in continuing her education. Shortly before her death in 1991, she received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from UMCP.
About the Fund
The Marylin K. Brown Scholarship was established for the purpose of providing short-term financial loan assistance to returning women students at the University of Maryland. Recipients must be degree seeking students at UMCP. Applicants will be considered based on availability of funds, and preference will be given to women 30 years of age and over with children.
Dr. Marilyn K. Brown was the Director of the UMCP Office of Institutional Studies (now OIRP). Daniel E. Thomas, Senior Research Analyst at the UMCP Office of Institutional Research and Planning, retired in Fall 2006. In lieu of gifts for his retirement, he requested that contributions be made to the Marilyn K. Brown Scholarship Fund to honor the memory of his colleague and friend.
