About Laura and Juris Kauls

Juris Kauls was about to graduate college in June, 1964. He was a sociology /psychology major and unclear about his career path. The Vietnam war was beginning to heat up. On the encouragement from a friend (who wanted to be a pilot in the Navy), he joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. As a college graduate, he was eligible for Officer Candidate School, which he attended in Newport, R.I.

He was lucky enough to get a billet in the Supply Corps, which was the "accounting" arm of the service. Juris was sent to Vietnam on two tours of duty, but luckily was working as an accountant on a ship! He liked the work he was doing and appreciated working with Certified Public Accountants (CP A's) and discovered that he would like to make that his career upon leaving service.

When he left the Navy in 1969, he went back to college, under the GI Bill, and received a degree in Accounting. After completing school, he got a job with a national CPA firm, where he met his wife, Laura, who had graduated from the University of Ma.1-yland with a B.S. degree in accounting. They worked together at the same firm for a couple of years and ultimately each left to work at separate firms, and then started their own CPA firm in 2008 -and are still together!

The service was a huge influence on Juris' life and his future, which was a successful career in a field in which he got his training in the Navy. And for which he is very thankful.
