About Janice L. Atwood

"I had a very gratifying career in the U.S. Army. When I separated from active duty and decided to continue my education at the University of Maryland, College Park, I found a new support system from fellow students and professors. I used the G.I. Bill and was fortunate to be selected as a graduate assistant while studying for my master’s degree. With savings and my Army Reserve pay, I was able to attend school without having to take student loans. After meeting students at the Veterans Center, I realized how many veteran and serving students are challenged financially in obtaining a degree. I hope to ease that burden for some with this endowment."

About the Fund

The Janice L. Atwood Veterans Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 in order to provide critical support to University of Maryland veteran students.
