Tyler Austin

Tyler was a non-traditional student while attending Maryland. He began attending Maryland after 7 years of active duty in the US Air Force and continued his career in the military as a reservist for 5 years while attending Maryland. In the military, Tyler filled a number of roles to include Civil Engineering in Germany and South Korea, Geospatial Intelligence in the drone program, and lastly as a part of the military's diplomatic service where had the opportunity to work for the US ambassadors in Bagdad, Iraq and Manila, Philippines. 

While at UMD, Tyler earned a bachelor’s degree in Geographical Sciences. Post-undergrad, Tyler has worked as a software engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton, Amazon's cloud organization AWS, and is now at a startup in DC called ScaleAI where he works on integrating Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with the Public Sector, DoD and Intelligence Communities. 

Tyler is passionate about a lot more than just golf in his free time, he is also extremely passionate about helping and mentoring present and future student veterans as well as bringing attention to mental health issues and resources available to help.
