Portrait of Sophia Franzini

Sophia Franzini

2023-2024 Scholar

Sophia Franzini is a junior chemistry major with a neuroscience minor at the University of Maryland. For the Spring and Fall 2023 semester, she held the Kappa Delta House Manager position and worked as a lab/lecture TA for post-graduate students in general chemistry. Through these leadership roles, Sophia learned how to direct others that are different from herself and developed problem-solving abilities. She further advanced her skills in a Rutgers University toxicology program this summer, where she partnered with the National Institute of Health and the Chen lab group in the Department of Chemical Biology to study metastatic melanoma. Sophia quickly gained independence in her work, learning how to single-handedly run multiple western blots, MTT and scratch assays, and how to manage cells under sterile conditions. She looks forward to completing her degree and becoming an alumna for both Kappa Delta and UMD in 2025!
