Paola Castro

2019 scholar

Paola Castro is a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park majoring in Elementary Education. Teaching has always been a passion of hers. So much so that she quit her full-time job as a family support worker to pursue her degree. This was a huge risk to take considering her obligation to my 6-year-old daughter, but she truly feels that following her heart will benefit them both in the end. Paola has a wonderful support system in place to aid in her continued success, none of this would be possible without them. She plans to pursue a career in education with the long-term goal of becoming a teacher; assisting people in underrepresented areas, focusing on advocating for better policies, mental health, and parent involvement. Paola plans on making a change one student, classroom, and school at a time. She is determined to make a difference in the community and world around her. Her goal is to be the best role model for her daughter and future students that cross her path.
