Over the past three years, Marlee has overseen four projects and initiated three new ones. These initiatives include the restoration of rain gardens and streams in College Park, the construction of an algae collector for a local pond, and a community green wall where students can gather food, flowers, and learn about local vegetation. In each of these projects, she serves as a vital link between the project leaders and UMD facilities and staff, assessing feasibility and creating timelines to ensure completion. The impact of these projects extends beyond the university, benefiting both UMD students and the College Park community, making their success deeply fulfilling for Marlee.
Her experience as project manager of AEES has profoundly influenced Marlee, as she feels she has been able to effect real change at her school and within her local community. By leading these projects, she has empowered numerous club members, helping them overcome their initial hesitations and build confidence in their abilities. Through this role, Marlee has achieved a diverse range of project goals, learning new skills while also applying her knowledge to assist others. The opportunity to lead has enabled her to support environmental initiatives and promote eco-friendly practices, ultimately contributing to a happier and healthier local community, which she finds to be the most rewarding aspect of her involvement in the club.
