Karen Santamaria

2020 - 2021 Scholar

My name is Karen Santamaria. I’m from Ecuador with Irish ancestry. At this time, I’m a junior at the University of Maryland majoring Architecture, Planning & Preservation. One of the most recognized subjects in Architecture is Regenerative design. It’s a subject that fascinates me. I have this innate desire to explore how science and technology can improve the overall performance of buildings in social and environmental architecture, and how I can contribute to a sustainable future. Also, I would like to design buildings or houses with access to Biophilia so people can have the vigor to connect with nature and other forms of life within the structure. I’m very enthusiastic to complete the program of architecture and have the opportunity to keep growing personally and educationally. Moreover, I would like to mention that more life habitats have been destroyed, but in this new age movement in architecture, I want to progress towards a sustainable world with no more tolerance in destroying the ecosystem and be a difference!
