Jessica Lang

2019-2020 Scholar

I first was interested in joining SEE after my first lecture with Angela Kinsey. I was really interested in how the university was able to bring people like that to campus and since I wasn't very involved on campus, I decided to look into it. I went to the General Interest Meeting with Yuval and decided I wasn't ready to try for a director position and went to M-team instead to get a better understanding of the organization and to just get my feet wet. I joined initially because I needed to get more involved on campus, but I found so much more out of it. I felt a sense of belonging on campus, I found friends and what I could call a family, I found a sense of pride in the work I was doing for the campus and had joy doing so. I love seeing the event get built up the day of and then seeing how excited people are about it and the impact it has on them. SEE really gave me the opportunity to solidify UMD as my home.
