2024-2025 Scholar

Iara Rattner is currently a junior at the University of Maryland, majoring in General Biology on the pre-med track. She was born and raised in the Rockville, Maryland area, though her family hails from Argentina. Iara is trilingual, speaking Spanish at home with her family, and she also learned Hebrew through her 12 years of attendance at Jewish Day School.

Iara holds the position of Vice President of Operations on the Executive Board of Alpha Delta Pi, where she serves as the President in her absence, manages the chapter calendar, and acts as the communication liaison between chapter members, the executive board, the advisory board, and the international office.

She has participated in the PrePAIR program, which supports first-generation students from underrepresented minority groups in the Honors College. Iara began as a mentee in her freshman year, and in her sophomore and junior years, she has served as a peer mentor, supporting other students.

Iara also shares her Hispanic and Argentinian heritage through the Argentine Club, which she founded on campus. This club brings together people of Argentinian culture and those interested in learning more about it. Additionally, she is active in Maryland Hillel, an organization for Jewish students. In her freshman spring, Iara worked on the Hillel board to plan FreshFest, a pre-move-in event for Jewish freshmen, and helped carry out a successful event in her sophomore fall. She regularly participates in Hillel programming, Friday night services, and enjoys educating others on campus about Judaism. This year, Iara serves as the Media Chair for the Conservative Minyan, a religious group.

Academically, Iara plans to attend medical school after graduating from the University of Maryland, with the ultimate goal of becoming a physician.
