Brittanie Reed

2023-2024 Scholar

Brittanie Reed is a senior at the University of Maryland, majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice.  She completed her first two years of college at Montgomery Community College, graduating with an Associates Degree in General Studies with a Social Science focus. Though her time at UMD has been brief, she has been able to contribute to the multicultural scene on campus through the Nyumburu Cultural Center. She has worked as the host of News Break, the show hosted at the center which gives Black students on campus a voice to talk about current events and share their opinions. Brittanie assisted in hosting numerous different events, as well as becoming the President of their S.O.U.L. club, which was founded to uplift and support Black women on campus.  Additionally she is a part of the Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative in the School of Public Policy. This fellowship offered her an opportunity to work with DC Action, which is a corporation focused on addressing a variety of issues surrounding child advocacy with her specifically focusing on youth experiencing homelessness. Apart from her studies, Brittanie is a lead teacher for Kinder Care (Champions) in Bowie, MD. One of her passions is working with children, so she is blessed to be able to do work that has a positive impact for them and children in the PG area.
