My name is Andy Jimenez. I am a Hispanic linguistic and education major at the University of Maryland and a Religious Affairs Specialist at the United States Army. I was born and raised in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I immigrated to the U.S., sponsored by my father at the age of sixteen. The transition was challenging, but I was fascinated by learning about the culture, the people, and the language. Sooner After I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms and many opportunities to grow and give back. As a result, I decided to major in Spanish to give a little back on my unique Latino culture and heritage.

As an act of gratefulness, I enlisted in the United States Military in 2017, serving four years in the U.S. Army as of now. I am honored to have served overseas in the middle east and in-country at the 1398th transportation unit in Baltimore, Maryland. Part of my job is to provide moral, emotional, and religious support to my battalion soldiers and protect the unit chaplain. I also facilitate suicide prevention training, counseling, and combat stress support within my organization.

My ultimate goal is to become a clinical psychologist to continue serving my country and fellow soldiers in the mental health counseling field. I believe everything we dream of can become a reality if we commit and work hard to accomplish it.
