Alythia Vo is a senior Biological Sciences and Spanish double major at the University of Maryland. She also has minors in Asian American Studies and US Latino Studies. Alythia is a member of the Integrated Life Sciences Honors College and is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion. She has performed research at Johns Hopkins assessing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to contraceptive care among Latina women as well as research at University of Maryland School of Medicine investigating child and infant mortality outcomes in Mali. Alythia has also volunteered at the Pregnancy Aid Center which provides OB/GYN care to women in underserved communities. On campus, Alythia is the Co-President of the Asian American Student Union, Recruitment and Community Outreach Chair for ODK Leadership Honor Society and serves on the VP for Student Affairs' Student Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association's Women in Medicine Committee where she works on organizing advocacy and community education events and growing a mentorship network for women in medicine. This semester, Alythia has been interning for the US Senate's Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. In this role, Alythia has worked on health policy research and initiatives related to health disparities, women's health, reproductive rights, domestic violence and sexual assault. Alythia hopes to continue using her knowledge and power to advocate for women by pursuing a career in medicine to combat health disparities and promote equitable women's healthcare.
