Alex Bien

2020-2021 Scholar

I am currently a rising senior pursuing my BS in physics, as well as the president of Beta Theta Pi, and a tenor in PandemoniUM Acappella here on campus, all of which I've been involved with since freshman year. During my tenure as a student, I've had the privilege of doing materials science research with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on steel and with the Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) on graphene, as well  as particle physics research with UMD's FIRE program, and this coming summer I will be doing accelerator physics research at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University. I'm looking forward to studying abroad in Kyoto for my final semester, after which I hope to pursue either a PhD in physics or a career in science communication.
