Aaron Brown

2022 - 2023 Scholar

I am a 24-year-old native Washingtonian, a first-generation college student, and a youth counselor for disenfranchised youth residing in the District of Columbia. This past spring, I completed the first step in my educational journey, graduating from Prince George’s Community College with highest honors. School has always been a struggle. In grade school, I was diagnosed with ADHD. Many of my teachers gave up on me, making me feel like I was incapable of academic success.

My goal is to become a master educator. The reasons that lead me to teach are rather personal and are very much responsible for my passion. I am an African American woman who has not always been able to see people who look like me in the classroom. When I was younger, I grew up in a low-income community where quality teachers were far and few. I wholeheartedly believe that the students in my community deserve a quality education and I am excited to serve them in the future. Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which can be used to change the world." I hope to change the world through education, not just through teaching, but through community engagement, support, and innovation. My desire to make a change may start in the classroom, but my passion will take my community and I well beyond.
