Description: Disaster - it can strike at anytime, anywhere. UMD researchers have been thinking about various ways to manage, anticipate, and respond to disaster, whether terrorism, disease, or natural catastrophe. The next UMD @ Home and in the World features researchers who study this timely and enduring issue from a variety of disciplines. Please join us for a lively interdisciplinary discussion.

Speakers include Gary LaFree, Criminology and Criminal Justice; Boris Lushniak, School of Public Health; and Gerard Passannante, English; as they discuss their current projects on disaster, including: Terrorism and political violence; Infectious disease disasters resulting from Bioterrorism, pandemics and outbreaks; Emergency management, countermeasures and occupational health issues for responders; and Catastrophe as seen through artistic expression.

Lavender Leadership Workshop: Facilitating Dialogue

 LGBTQ+ students have a greater ability to lead conversations within the LGBTQ+ communities, with particular recognition of diversity within LGBTQ+ communities, including raising issues of racial justice. Pizza included!

Please note: If you attend all four workshops across the year, you will receive the Lavender Leadership Certificate and will be automatically nominated to be in the Lavender Leadership Honor Society.
