Winter Weather Updates at UMD

With expected snowfall on Monday night into Tuesday morning, the University is closing at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13 and remaining closed on Tuesday, March 14. Some essential services will be available. Please be aware that significant snow accumulation could severely limit the availability of some services and may force temporary suspension of activities/services due to safety considerations.


Adele H. Stamp Student Union – Center for Campus Life

The Adele H. Stamp Student Union will close at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13. All events in the Stamp will end by 8:00 p.m. and all academic buildings that hold student meetings. The Stamp will remain closed on Tuesday, March 14 and all events and activities are canceled. Please visit for updates.

Recreation & Wellness

All facilities will close at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13. The Eppley Recreation Center will be open 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14. All other RecWell facilities will remain closed. Please visit for updates.

All campus parking garages will be available to any vehicle with or without a campus parking registration beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13. Individuals are encouraged to relocate their vehicles to a covered parking garage to allow for more complete snow removal throughout campus but please do not park on the roof or ramps leading to the roof of the garage. Vehicles will need to be parked in their assigned lot by 7:00 a.m. when the University reopens. Please visit for updates.

University Dining

On Monday, March 13, 251 North will close at its regular time. The Diner and South Campus will close at 9:100 p.m. Leonardtown will close at 9:00 p.m. Commons Shop and North Campus Snack 'n Shop will close at 1:00 a.m. The Union Shop will close at 8:00 a.m. 24 Shop will remain open 24/7.

On Tuesday, March 14, The Diner, South Campus, and 251 North will be open 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Commons Shop and North Campus Snack 'n Shop will be open 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. 24 Shop will remain open 24/7. All other dining facilities will be closed.

University Counseling Center

For urgent mental health issues/crises, The Counseling Center’s 24-7 call service will be available by calling (301) 314-7651 during the University closure.  The 24-7 call service is staffed by mental health professional counselors.

Pease remember to stock up on a few essential items: 
•    Canned/no-cook foods
•    Bottled water 
•    Medications
•    Toiletries
•    Battery-powered light source

•    Sign up for UMD Alerts by visiting
•    Program the campus emergency phone number, 301-405-3333 or #3333, into your cell phone.  Report any emergencies immediately to University Police.
•    Have your cell phone and other devices charged prior to severe weather.
