The University of Maryland Campus Pantry received a generous donation of canned goods and similar perishable items from multiple Greek Life organizations. Over 5,000 items were creatively assembled to display Terrapin Pride and photographed by the participating Sororities and Fraternities.

Alpha Sigma Phi member, Brooks Gearhart commented, "The Greek community prides itself on positively impacting our surrounding community at the University of Maryland through a variety of ways. This past homecoming is just one example of how our values have taught us to come together as one to address a global issue present in nearby neighborhoods."

The vision of the UMD Campus Pantry is to eliminate food hardship at the UMD College Park Campus. The coordinator of the program, Allison Tjaden noted “The effort by the students in the Greek Like community has made a tremendous impact for the Campus Pantry - we were able to stock our shelves for the remainder of the semester & into the start of the spring! The Campus Pantry provides emergency food to Terps in need and is open for clients each Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. We serve anywhere from 30 - 60 clients each week. The donations were thoughtful and included a variety of healthy foods - which are very important to the Terps we serve.”

Perishable items can be donated to the UMD Campus Pantry in the Dining Services South Campus  Administrative Offices located in the South Campus Diner on Monday-Friday anytime between 8:30 a.m - 4:00 p.m. Additional information regarding online donations or volunteering can be found on the UMD Campus Pantry website.

Thank you for the participating Greek affiliations for the generous donation of perishable goods and the excellent display of creativity.
